Job Description & Requirements
- Specialty: Registered Nurse (Medical Surgical)
- Years of Experience Required: Minimum 2 years
- Prior Travel Experience: Not explicitly required
- License: Must have Indiana or Compact RN license in hand or have submitted fingerprint application package
- Weekend Requirement: Must be flexible; expected to work 50% of weekends during contract
- Floating: May be required to float to different levels of care including Med-Surg, PCU, ICU with resources provided
- Staffing Ratios: 1:5-6
- Patient Population: Diverse, ages 18+ with Neuro, Cardio/Pulm, Endocrine, Liver/GI, Renal cases
- Teaching Facility: May be required to precept or have students shadow during assignment
- Charge Nurse: May be required to cover charge nurse duties with training and resources provided
Certifications Required
- BCLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA or RQI accepted
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA or RQI accepted
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) - AHA or RQI accepted
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) - AHA only
- CHEMO (Chemotherapy) - as applicable
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) - as applicable
- EFM (Electronic Fetal Monitoring) - per unit requirements
- State License Verification (within 30 days before start)
- Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement (HIPAA)
- NIH Stroke Certification - as applicable
Health & Compliance Requirements
- Physical exam completed within 12 months of start
- Fit Mask test within 12 months (specific approved respirators required)
- Negative 10 Panel Drug Screen within 12 months
- Immunizations/Vaccinations:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (preferred but not required)
- TB test (PPD, QuantiFERON-TB Gold, or T-SPOT) within 1 year
- Rubeola (Measles): Positive titer or 2 vaccines required; no declinations accepted
- Mumps: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required; no declinations accepted
- Rubella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required; no declinations accepted
- Hepatitis B series, titer, or signed declination required
- Varicella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required; no declinations accepted
- Seasonal Flu Vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (9/30 - 3/31); no declinations accepted
- Color Blind Exam (Ishihara or equivalent) with minimum 100% score for online test
- TB Questionnaire updated annually
Documentation & Verification
- Minimum of 2 professional references from recent employment verified within 2 years (must be from charge, manager, supervisor, or above)
- Current employment application including work history with explanations for gaps of 30+ days
- Skills checklist completed within 12 months and annually thereafter
- Background checks including:
- 7-year history including SSN trace, county criminal, statewide, national sex offender, FACIS Level III
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start
- Education verification and official transcript/diploma (may be pending at start)
- Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam required
- Unit competency exam required
Additional Notes
- Local candidates are not accepted for this travel position
- IU Health will not allow Indiana RNs to work at their facilities effective 11/30/2024, except for Periop/OR RN’s, Allied, and Ambulatory RN travelers
- On-site PAPR available at Methodist and University Hospitals with automatic approval
- Call-in shifts must be made up or added to end of contract depending on FTE status
- Candidates must complete mandatory IU Health RRT modules if applicable (22 modules with strict deadlines)
