Job Summary
Seeking a Registered Nurse for a travel/contract position in a medical-surgical/telemetry unit. This role requires a commitment of approximately 14 weeks.
Experience Requirements
- Specialty: Registered Nurse
- Required Years of Experience: Not explicitly stated; default to standard RN experience (minimum 2 years clinical practice in acute care setting required as per application history requirements).
- Prior Travel Experience: Not explicitly required.
Certifications Required
- BLS (Basic Life Support): Required for all candidates. Must be current and renewed if expiring within 30 days of start.
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support): Required for MS/Tele and many other units. Must be current and renewed if expiring within 30 days of start.
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support): Preferred but not required for MS/Tele.
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program): Not required for MS/Tele.
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course): Preferred but not required.
- State Nursing License: Primary source verification required within 30 days of start. License must be valid and renewed if expiring within 30 days of start.
- NURSYS Verification: Required within 30 days of start.
- NIH Stroke Certification: Preferred but not required for MS/Tele.
- Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement: Required annually.
- Acknowledgement of Pass/Fail Testing: Required for all nursing positions except OR.
Competency & Testing
- Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam: Required as applicable.
- Unit-Specific Competency Exam: Required within 12 months of start and updated annually.
- Pass/Fail Testing (EKG/Medication): Required onsite during orientation for bedside RNs (except OR). Retake available if needed.
Background & Compliance Requirements
- Government-issued photo ID (Driver’s License or State ID) required and must be carried on assignment.
- Background check required prior to start, including:
- FCRA compliant 7-year search
- SSN Trace
- National Sex Offender Registry
- Education verification
- Monthly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks.
- Fingerprinting (BCI and FBI) required within 12 months of start and updated annually. Must be completed under nursing code 4723.09. Candidates can start with results pending but must complete prior to extension.
- Education verification required for all candidates.
- References: Two references required from employment within one year of start, from a manager or supervisor (co-worker references not accepted).
- Employment application must include 3 years prior work history with at least 2 years clinical practice in acute care in a similar area.
Health & Immunization Requirements
- Physical Exam: Required within 1 year of start, including Snellen eye exam (for candidates signing 4/11/2025 or later). Must confirm ability to safely perform job functions.
- Fit Mask: Required within 12 months of start and updated annually. Must use approved N95 masks. PAPRs approved on case-by-case basis.
- Immunizations:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (every 10 years)
- Negative TB test (2-step PPD or QGold/TSPOT) or chest X-ray if history of positive TB, updated annually.
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella): 2 vaccines or positive titer; booster required if titers negative/equivocal.
- Hepatitis B: Titer, series, or declination required.
- Varicella: 2 vaccines or positive titer; booster required if titers negative/equivocal.
- Drug Testing: Standard 10-panel drug screen within 12 months of start, updated annually. Instant drug screens not accepted.
- Flu Vaccine: Required during flu season (10/31 - 03/31) or approved medical/religious exemption. Declinations not accepted.
- Eye Exam: Required within 1 year of start for new candidates signing 4/11/2025 or later.
Facility-Specific Requirements
- Completion of online training modules prior to start (must be done on a computer using Google Chrome; cannot be completed on a phone).
- SafeMedicate preparation materials provided for review before pass/fail exam during orientation.
- Pass/fail ECG and medication dosing testing required onsite during orientation.
- Annual skills checklist required.
- Annual acknowledgment of orientation safety manual.
- Candidates returning to the facility with less than a 6-month gap may have some requirements waived or modified.
Notes
- Candidates must carry government-issued photo ID at all times during assignment.
- Fingerprinting must be completed both through the agency and at the facility.
- Candidates with gaps longer than 40 days between assignments may need to update physical exam, chest X-ray, and eye exam.
- Religious and medical exemptions for vaccines are reviewed on a case-by-case basis; declinations are not accepted.
- Candidates must complete all onboarding modules prior to clearance to start.
