Job Opportunity: Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse
Location: Edmonds, Washington
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 16 weeks
Job Description
- Provide care in Labor and Delivery, Postpartum, OB Triage, Antepartum, and Normal Newborn units.
- Float to other units as needed.
- Patient diagnoses include Labor and Delivery, Postpartum, OB Triage, Antepartum, and Normal Newborn care.
Required Skills and Procedures
- Vaginal Delivery and Cesarean Delivery
- Circulate in Operating Room (OR)
- Start adult IVs
- Blood and Blood Products Administration
- Management of drains, epidural pumps, and PCA pumps
- Administration of insulin and magnesium sulfate
- Care for high-risk antepartum, high-risk labor and delivery, LDRP, low-risk antepartum/LD, OB-GYN, post-op/pre-op patients
- Couplet care
Staffing Ratio
- 1:1 to 1:3 patient-to-nurse ratio
Experience Requirements
- Minimum 2 years of experience in Labor and Delivery, Postpartum, and Newborn care
- Floating experience required as needed
- Prior travel experience: Not explicitly required
Certifications Required
- AWHONN Intermediate (Association of Women's Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses)
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- FHM (Fetal Heart Monitoring)
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) preferred
Licensure
- Active compact nursing license honored at all Swedish facilities in Washington
Compliance and Documentation Requirements
- Background check within 45 days of start, covering all locations lived/worked in the past 7 years, updated annually
- Education verification required for nursing degree
- Physical exam within 1 year of start, signed by MD, NP, PA, or DO
- Drug screening: 10 panel within 90 days of start (no instant tests)
- Immunizations and health documents required:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years or declination)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months, updated annually
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titer
- Hepatitis B vaccination or signed declination
- Varicella vaccination or positive titer
- Seasonal flu vaccine or declination during flu season
- COVID vaccine or declination
- Respirator safety clearance required annually for travel candidates
- Fit mask testing required annually for travel candidates
Training and Competency Requirements
- Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam as applicable
- Skills checklist updated annually for applicable units
- Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM) certification or Fetal Heart Rate Monitoring Assessment exam required for L&D RNs
- Competency exams as applicable by specialty
Additional Requirements
- Float policy acknowledgment: may be required to float to other Providence facilities within reasonable distance
- References: Minimum 2 supervisor references covering 1 year of employment in a comparable specialty/setting within the last 3 years
- Employment application covering at least last 5 years of employment with explanations for gaps or overlaps
- Completion of required WorkRamp training modules prior to start, including:
- Annual regulatory requirements
- Specialty-specific modules for Labor and Delivery
- Regional core and specialty modules as applicable
- Badge photo (passport style with neutral background) required
Notes
- Previous permanent employees of any Providence affiliated facility must have a minimum 3-month separation before qualifying for this travel position.
- All certifications must be current and issued by approved agencies.
- Background checks and education verifications are strictly enforced.
- Candidates must comply with all state-specific requirements for Washington.
