Job Opportunity: CVOR Registered Nurse

Location: New Brunswick, New Jersey
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Summary

Seeking a Registered Nurse with experience in Cardiovascular Operating Room (CVOR) to support open heart adult surgeries including CABG and valve procedures (aortic, mitral, pulmonic). The RN will float to the Main OR if no CVOR cases are scheduled. Scrub experience is required for open CVOR cases and TAVR procedures.


Experience Requirements

  • Minimum 3+ years of specialty experience required (highest stated requirement).
  • Prior travel experience not required; first-time travelers will be considered, though experience is highly preferred.

Certifications Required

  • BLS (Basic Life Support) – AHA required, RQI and instructor cards acceptable.
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) – Preferred but not explicitly required for CVOR.
  • Scrub experience and knowledge of devices such as Impella, HeartMate, ECMO, laser lead extractions, and TAVR are required.
  • Other certifications may be required depending on specific units or roles (e.g., PALS, NRP, CHEMO) but are not mandatory for this CVOR role.

Job Details

  • On-call requirement: 32 total hours per month.
  • No block schedule.
  • Locals accepted.
  • Hospital provides scrubs.
  • Patient mix includes open heart adult surgery cases.

Skills & Knowledge

  • Proficiency in scrubbing for open CVOR cases and TAVR.
  • Familiarity with cardiovascular assist devices (Impella, HeartMate).
  • Experience with ECMO and laser lead extractions.

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

  • Background Check: Criminal background check required within 30 days of start. Must include all aliases and locations worked/lived in the past 7 years. No open cases allowed at start.
  • Drug Screen: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 30 days of start.
  • Health Documents:
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within required timeframes.
    • Physical exam within the last 12 months, cleared to perform essential job functions and free of communicable disease.
    • Influenza vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required annually.
    • Fit test and respiratory medical clearance required prior to start.
    • Immunizations and titers for Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B, Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap as per facility policy.
  • Competency Exams: Medication/Pharmacology, Dysrhythmia/EKG, and other competency exams required within 72 hours of signing. Failure policies apply.
  • References: Two references within the last 2 years, including at least one managerial reference.
  • Employment History: Resume or application with 7 years of work history required.
  • Floating Policy: Must complete facility-specific floating policy for every new assignment or site transfer.

Additional Notes

  • Candidates must be able to provide government-issued photo ID and valid RN license.
  • Candidates switching between RWJ sites with less than 30 days gap may have some documentation accepted from previous assignment.
  • Completion of annual education and facility-specific orientation materials required prior to start.
  • Some roles may require additional certifications or training (e.g., Management of Assaultive Behavior for ER or Behavioral Health RNs), but not applicable for this CVOR position.
