Job Opportunity: Medical Surgical Registered Nurse

Location: Cartersville, Georgia
Employment Type: Travel/Contract

Job Details

  • Unit: Medical Surgical
  • Weekend Schedule: Every Other Weekend
  • Call: None
  • Floating: Within facility/scope of practice as needed
  • Minimum Specialty Experience: 2 years (Unit accepts first-time travelers)
  • Prior Travel Experience: Not required

Work Expectations

  • Holidays:
    • If 1 major holiday falls during assignment, traveler is expected to work it.
    • If 2 major holidays fall, traveler must work both.
    • If 3 major holidays fall, traveler must work two of them.
  • Major Holidays Include: Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving/Black Friday, Christmas Eve/Day, New Year’s Eve/Day
  • Orientation: Number of non-billable orientation hours depends on contract length (e.g., 8 hours for 8-week assignment)
  • Return to Office (RTO): Maximum 7 days
  • Compliance: Full compliance required to start on time; delays result in 2-week pushback due to bi-weekly orientation schedule
  • Locals Accepted: Yes, at same rate

Required Experience

  • Minimum 2 years of experience as a Registered Nurse in Medical Surgical specialty
  • First-time travelers accepted; prior travel experience not mandatory

Certifications & Licenses

  • Required:
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) – Required for RNs in critical care-related specialties
    • BLS (Basic Life Support)
    • State License (Georgia) – Must be current and verified within 30 days prior to start
    • NURSYS Verification (RN) – Annual verification within 30 days prior to start
  • May be Required (depending on unit):
    • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) – For PACU/Pre-op/ER if pediatric patients accepted
    • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
    • EFM (Electronic Fetal Monitoring) – Online course required within a few months of hire
    • NIH Stroke Certification – If applicable, must be completed yearly
  • Other:
    • Tech Cert Verification (if applicable)
    • Competency exams including Medication Test/Pharmacology, Dysrhythmia/EKG (for certain units)

Health & Compliance Requirements

  • Physical exam within 12 months of start
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months (with specific protocols if prior positive)
  • TB Questionnaire – Required annually for all candidates
  • Immunizations:
    • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella – 2 MMR vaccines or positive titer with booster protocols
    • Varicella – 2 vaccines or positive titer with booster protocols
    • Hepatitis B series or signed declination
    • Seasonal Flu Vaccination or Declination (strongly encouraged during flu season)
  • Drug Testing: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 30 days of start; cannot start with results pending
  • Background Check: Must be completed within 30 days of start, including education verification
  • References: 2 clinical references required
  • Skills Checklist: Updated within 12 months
  • Work History Verification: Verification of most recent employer required; can be pending at start with proof it is in process

Competency Testing

  • Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (required for RNs)
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam (required for Tele, MS/Tele, IMCU, ER, Cardiac Tele/Step-down, ICU, PCU) – 3 attempts allowed; failure results in cancellation
  • Color Blind Testing – Required for all candidates; alternative assessment available if needed

Facility Policies

  • Candidates must review and sign Code of Conduct and Dress/Professional Appearance Policy prior to start
  • Delineation of Privileges required only for CVOR Certified Surgical First Assistant and RNFA specialties
