Job Opportunity: ICU Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Job Description

• Unit: Medical/Surgical ICU (MSICU)
• Patient Age Groups: Pediatrics, Adults, Geriatrics
• Patient Diagnoses: Medical ICU and Surgical ICU patients (excluding cardiac and occasional pediatrics) including post code, post stroke, TPA, respiratory failure, dialysis
• Float Requirement: Float between CPU, PCU, and MS/Tele units (max 4 patients)
• Schedule: Every other weekend coverage required
• Shift Options: 8, 10, or 12 hour shifts with guaranteed hours (e.g., 3 or 4 twelve-hour shifts per week)

Experience Requirements

• Minimum 2 years of ICU experience required
• First-time travel nurses are welcome (no prior travel experience required)

Certifications Required

• ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA only
• BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA or American Red Cross
• PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) preferred but not mandatory

Skills Required

• Interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
• Care of ventilated patients

Systems Used

• Medication System: Omnicell
• Documentation System: EPIC

Testing and Orientation

• Pass/fail exams during orientation may include: Medication Exam, EKG Exam, Critical Care Exam (BKAT)
• Two attempts allowed for each exam before cancellation
• EPIC testing required on day 1
• Dysrhythmia guide and testing required for MS, MS/Tele, Hemodialysis/Dialysis units

Required Documents & Compliance

• Valid Driver’s License/State ID
• Social Security Card
• Background Check (including SSN Trace, 7-year county residence, Nationwide Search, Sex Offender Search) within 30 days of start
• Official Transcript or Diploma copy
• Physical Exam within 1 year of start (renewed yearly)
• Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year (or documentation if previously positive)
• Immunizations: Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years), Rubeola, Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella (titers or vaccines)
• Negative 10-panel drug screen within 30 days of start (including Marijuana/THC)
• Flu vaccination or approved exemption required prior to start during flu season
• Photo for badge (passport style, white background, no selfies)
• Employment application and 2 professional references

• Mask fit testing completed at orientation
• Facility-specific COVID-19 vaccination requirements and exemption forms apply
• Scrub color codes vary by unit (e.g., Emergency Department: Royal Blue; Women & Children: Pink/White; Critical Care/Med Surg: Ceil Blue)
• Competency exams and acknowledgment of pass/fail testing required for all RNs
• CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) certification required only for ER travelers after 1 year at facility
