Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - Emergency Room (ER)
Location: Lansing, Michigan
Employment Type: Travel/Contract

Job Summary
Seeking an experienced Registered Nurse for the Emergency Room at a Level 1 Trauma Center with Stroke and Heart Center designations, including a Pediatric Emergency Department. The unit experiences high patient-to-nurse ratios (typically 1:5-6, potentially up to 1:8 during busy times and holidays).
Work Schedule
- Weekend shifts required: 3 weekends (Friday-Sunday) per 4-week schedule
- May be scheduled for 1 to all 3 weekend days
- Floating to Pediatrics possible
- No on-call required
Required Experience & Skills
- Minimum 2 years of ER nursing experience (Level I trauma experience required)
- Proficient in interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
- Experience with EPIC charting system
- Prior travel experience not explicitly required (unit accepts first-time travelers)
Required Certifications
- Current State Nursing License (Michigan)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- BCLS (Basic Life Support) by American Heart Association
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) or ATCN as a substitute
- NIH Stroke Certification
- ENPC (Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course) preferred/required for ER
Preferred Experience
- Experience with continuous IV sedation and procedural sedation administration
- Triage experience
Additional Information
- High patient-to-nurse ratios should be expected and accepted
- Modules related to orientation and facility-specific training are completed onsite and are not billable hours
- No travel experience required; first-time travelers are welcome
Compliance & Documentation Requirements
- Background checks including 7-year history, education verification, and criminal history
- Physical exam within 12 months prior to start, noting latex sensitivity
- Drug screening (10-panel with THC) within 30 days of start
- Immunizations and titers: Tdap, MMR (measles, mumps, rubella), Varicella, Hepatitis B
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 1 year, with annual TB questionnaire submission
- OSHA Respirator Fit Mask form completed prior to start
- References: 2 previous employer references required
- Resume with 7-year work history required
- Skill checklist and competency exams specific to unit required
Summary
This ER travel nurse position requires a minimum of 2 years of ER experience with Level I trauma exposure and multiple advanced certifications. The role involves working multiple weekends, floating to pediatrics, and managing high patient ratios in a busy Level 1 Trauma Center. First-time travelers are accepted.
