Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (RN) - Neuro MedSurg (6 West)

Location: Morgantown, West Virginia
Unit: 6 West - Neuro
Unit Size: 20 beds (14 floor)
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Unit Overview

  • Specialty: Neurosciences, including Deep Brain Stimulators (DBS), Stroke, Seizures, Surgical/Post-Op Spines, Neurological Disorders
  • Nurse-to-Patient Ratios:
    • Floor patients: 1:5-6
    • Nurse aides: 3 per shift, ratios 1:7-10
  • Respiratory Therapy (RT) available 24/7; RNs are not required to have ventilator experience
  • Telemetry available; RNs do not read strips but verify monitor tech readings in Epic

Required Certifications & Skills

  • BLS (AHA) required
  • NIHSS certification required and must be in hand at time of submission
  • ACLS preferred
  • Recent Epic experience required
  • Strong overall Neuro experience with proficiency in G-tube care
  • Disclosure of any background hits required at time of submission

  • Specialty: Neuro MedSurg

Clinical Responsibilities

  • Titration of drips is generally by physician orders; some protocols may allow RN titration with education
  • Common drips include: Amiodarone, Cardizem, Nitro, Dopamine, Nipride, Ketamine, Lasix, Bumex, Insulin
  • No ventilator management required by RNs; RT and physicians manage ventilators
  • Floating may be required to other units (7E, 7W, 7NE, 10E) as first priority, then hospital-wide if needed

Scheduling & Orientation

  • Weekend shifts required:
    • Weekend day positions: Friday, Saturday, Sunday
    • Weekend night positions: Friday-Sunday or Saturday-Monday
    • Weekday nights: every other weekend or 3 weekend shifts per schedule
  • Holiday shifts required as part of rotation
  • Orientation: 1 shift on the unit; 36 or 48-hour shifts
  • Dress code: Any combination of white and royal blue scrubs
  • Shift flexibility encouraged; 3 consecutive shifts allowed but not guaranteed

Additional Notes

  • Charge nurse available 24/7
  • Unit does not require stepdown RN experience
  • Must disclose any background issues at time of submission
