Job Summary
Seeking a Registered Nurse for a travel/contract position in a Medical-Surgical/Telemetry unit. This is an extension opportunity.
Experience Requirements
- Specialty: Registered Nurse
- Required Years of Experience: At least 2 years of clinical practice in an acute care setting and in a similar area to the pending assignment.
- Prior travel experience: Not explicitly required.
Certifications Required
- BLS (Basic Life Support): AHA or American Red Cross; RQI acceptable. Must be current at start.
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support): Required for MS/Tele.
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support): Preferred but not required.
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program): Not required for MS/Tele.
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course): Preferred but not required.
- State Nursing License: Primary source verification within 30 days of start; must be current.
- NURSYS Verification: Required within 30 days of start.
- NIH Stroke Certification: Preferred but not required.
- Pass/Fail Testing (EKG/Medication): Required for all bedside RNs except OR; completed onsite during orientation.
- Competency Exams: Unit-specific competency exam required within 12 months of start and updated annually.
- Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement: Required annually.
- Acknowledgement of Pass/Fail Testing: Required for all nursing positions except OR.
Background and Compliance Requirements
- Government-issued photo ID (Driver’s License or State ID) required and must be carried on assignment.
- Background check required prior to start, including:
- FCRA compliant 7-year search
- SSN trace
- National sex offender registry
- Education verification
- Monthly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks.
- Fingerprinting (BCI and FBI) required within 12 months of start and updated annually. Must be completed under nursing code 4723.09.
- Education verification required for all candidates.
- References: 2 references from employment within the past year, from a manager, supervisor, or director.
- Employment application must include 3 years prior work history, with at least 2 years clinical practice in acute care.
Health and Immunization Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year of start, including Snellen eye exam.
- Fit mask test (3M N95) within 12 months of start, updated annually.
- Immunizations/vaccinations required:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (every 10 years)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) - 2 vaccines or positive titer; booster if titers negative/equivocal
- Hepatitis B titer, series, or declination
- Varicella - 2 vaccines or positive titer; booster if titers negative/equivocal
- Seasonal Flu vaccine or approved medical/religious exemption (declinations not accepted)
- Drug screening: Standard 10-panel drug screen within 12 months, updated annually (instant drug screens not accepted).
- TB questionnaire annually if history of positive TB.
Facility-Specific Requirements
- Completion of online onboarding and training modules prior to start (must be done on a computer using Google Chrome).
- Modules include safety, medication administration, and facility-specific protocols.
- Candidates must complete all modules before clearance to start.
- Pass/Fail medication and EKG testing completed onsite during orientation.
- Candidates with a gap of less than 6 months from previous assignment at the facility may have some requirements waived (e.g., pass/fail testing, modules).
Additional Notes
- Candidates must carry government-issued photo ID at all times.
- Fingerprinting results must be received prior to extension contracts.
- Physical exam and eye exam do not need to be updated annually if currently on assignment without a break.
- Religious and medical exemptions for vaccines are reviewed on a case-by-case basis; declinations are not accepted.
- Candidates with facial hair failing fit mask testing must shave or submit exemption documentation for approval.
