Shift Details
- Schedule: 4 shifts per week, 10 hours each
- Shift Hours: Days, 06:30 – 15:00
- Weekend Requirement: Every third weekend
- On-call Requirement: One on-call shift per week

- Minimum Specialty Experience: 1 year (highest requirement confirmed)

Job Description & Responsibilities
Assist in Sterile Processing during downtime
Work settings include: Ambulatory OR, First Assist, General OR, Labor & Delivery, Pediatric General OR, Trauma
Types of cases include:
- Bariatrics (Gastric bypass, Sleeve, Lap band, Laparoscopic assisted)
- ENT (Endoscopic sinus procedures, Laryngoscopy, Septoplasty, Rhinoplasty, Mastoidectomy, Radical neck dissection, Tonsillectomy, Tracheostomy)
- Endoscopic Procedures (Bronchoscopy, Colonoscopy, EGD, PEG tube placement/exchange)
- General Surgery (Appendectomy, Cholecystectomy, Colon resection, Hernia repair, Mastectomy, Thyroidectomy, Whipple, Liver resection)
- Gynecology (Hysterectomy, Tubal ligation, C-sections, Dilation & Curettage, Therapeutic abortion)
- Orthopedic (ACL reconstruction, Arthroscopy, Spinal fusion, Total knee/hip replacement, Fracture reduction)
- Plastics (Free flap microvascular, Mastectomy with reconstruction)
- Podiatry (Ankle fusion, Bunionectomy, Metatarsal surgery)
- Robotics (Colorectal, GI, Gynecologic, Otolaryngologic, Urologic robotic surgeries)
- Trauma (Amputations, Gunshot/stab wounds, Motor vehicle accidents)
- Urology (Circumcision, Cystectomy, Cystoscopy, Nephrectomy, Prostatectomy, Lithotripsy)
Emergency management: Fire Safety
Equipment/Instrumentation: Scopes, fiber optics, Cell saver, Crash cart, Drills, Electrosurgical units, Sterilizers, Case carts, High level disinfectants
Professional skills: Aseptic technique, Instrument processing, Isolation precautions, Laser and radiation safety, Sharps safety, Specimen handling, Sterilization, Universal protocol (time out)
Sterile Processing: Assembly/wrap, Endoscope reprocessing, Decontamination, Repairs, Set/tray assembly
Patient Census
- Average daily census: 20 patients
Certifications & Licenses
- National Certifications Required: NBSTSA and/or NCCT
- BLS Certification: Required
- State License: Preferred (Missouri)
- Pending State License: Not accepted
- IV Certification: Required for LPN/LVN if applicable (Missouri facilities)
Additional Requirements
- Must float within scope to meet facility needs; regular floating between departments/units may be required
- Local candidates not accepted (home must be at least 75 miles away)
- Return to work restrictions: No more than 7 days
- Guaranteed hours: Minimum 3 shifts per 13 weeks
Compliance & Background Checks
- Government issued ID required
- Criminal background check within 6 months required (7-year search including statewide, nationwide, sex offender, international if applicable)
- Quarterly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required
- Fingerprinting required for Illinois long-term care or rehab assignments
- Education verification required prior to start
- State-specific searches and verifications required (Missouri and Illinois)
Health & Safety Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year required
- Fit mask (N95) testing required and must be current
- Immunizations and testing required:
- Tdap vaccine or declination
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 1 year
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella immunity or vaccination
- Drug testing within 1 year, including specific panels
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption during flu season
- Hand hygiene, latex allergy, dress code, and fingernail policies must be reviewed and acknowledged
Competency & Training
- Unit-specific competency exams required and must be updated annually
- Medication test/pharmacology competency exam required
- Orientation modules (approx. 16 hours) required prior to start
- HIPAA acknowledgement and regulatory compliance education required annually

- Two professional references required (supervisors preferred)
