Job Opportunity: Pediatric Critical Care Float Pool RN

Location: Charleston, South Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Details

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse (Pediatric Critical Care)
  • Shift: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7 PM - 7:30 AM), totaling 36 hours/week
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend plus holiday rotation
  • Patient Ratios: 1:2 or 1:3
  • Float Pool: RN will float within scope to all Pediatric units in the hospital (CVPICU, NICU, PICU)
  • Years of Experience Required: Minimum 2 years in Pediatric ICU
  • First Timers: Accepted if they meet experience requirements
  • Licensure: South Carolina RN license or Multi-State/Compact RN license required
  • Certifications Required:
    • BLS (American Heart Association only)
    • PALS (American Heart Association only)
  • Preferred Experience: ECMO, CRRT
  • Block Scheduling: Possible with manager approval, dependent on unit needs
  • Local Radius: 60 miles
  • Locals: Accepted on a case-by-case basis

Important Notes

  • Guaranteed Hours: Facility may call off 1 shift every 2 weeks
  • Hurricane Season: June through November; travelers may be assigned to emergency response teams during this time. Travelers should avoid confirming new or extended assignments during peak hurricane months (August and September) if this is a concern.

Required Documents & Compliance

  • Work Eligibility: Completed and accurate I-9 form and attestation confirming eligibility to work in the US
  • Identification: Copy of Driver’s License/State ID and Social Security Card
  • Background Checks:
    • Annual background check covering all locations lived/worked in the past 7 years
    • SSN Trace, Statewide, National Criminal, Sex Offender Registry, FACIS 3, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG checks
  • Education Verification: Diploma or transcripts preferred; official education verification required
  • Licensure Verification: Primary source verification of active, unencumbered SC RN license or compact license
  • NURSYS Verification: Required for all RNs
  • References: Proof of 2 clinical references or hospital evaluations
  • Employment History: Verification of last 3 clinical employers (or all if fewer than 3)

Certifications & Competencies

  • BLS: American Heart Association (AHA) only, valid at start date
  • PALS: Required for all pediatric units, AHA only
  • ACLS: Not required for pediatric units
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program): AHA/AAP only, valid at start date
  • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course): Required except for ER RNs
  • Medication/Pharmacology Competency Exam: Required as applicable
  • Color Blind Testing: Required prior to start
  • Competency Exam: Required
  • Other Certifications: EFM, NIH Stroke Certification, IV Therapy (if applicable)

Health & Safety Requirements

  • Physical Exam: Initial and annual physical exam attesting ability to meet job demands
  • Fit Mask Test: N95 fit test within 90 days prior to start, renewed annually
  • Immunizations & Titers:
    • Tdap within 10 years or declination form
    • Negative TB test (T-spot or Q-Gold) within 90 days or proof of positive with follow-up chest x-ray
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella: Positive titer or vaccination series with boosters as needed
    • Hepatitis B: Titer, vaccine series, or declination form
    • Flu Vaccine: Required during flu season (Aug 1 - Apr 30), medical/religious exemptions accepted (no declinations)
    • COVID-19 Vaccines: Not required but highly preferred; vaccination records must be uploaded or declination form completed
  • Drug Testing: 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start (no instant tests)

Facility Specific Requirements

  • Orientation Modules: Must be completed prior to start; estimated 2-6 hours depending on location
  • Photo for Badge: Clear, passport-style photo with solid light background, frontal view, business casual attire
  • Radiation Badge: Not required for this position
  • Additional: Facility may require specific forms such as Residency Declaration for compact license holders
