Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (ER) - Travel/Contract

Location: Springfield, Illinois
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Position Details

  • Specialty: Emergency Department Registered Nurse (ED RN)
  • Shift: 3x12 or 4x12 hour night shifts (1900-0730)
  • Unit: 56 bed Emergency Department with an average daily census of 175
  • Facility Type: Acute Care Hospital, Level I Trauma Center, Magnet designated
  • Charting System: Cerner
  • Scrub Color: Any solid color
  • Parking: Permit required, no cost

Experience & Requirements

  • Years of Experience Required: Minimum 2 years in Emergency Department nursing
  • Prior Travel Experience: Not explicitly required
  • First-timers Accepted: Yes
  • Weekend Requirement: Work every other weekend
  • Licensure: Must have an active Illinois nursing license or be in the application process with ETA to apply
  • Return to Office Restrictions: Ideally no more than 5 days

  • Emergency Department Experience: Combined Adult and Pediatric
  • Cardiac Monitoring & Emergency Response:
    • Interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
    • Management of multisystem organ dysfunction/failure
    • Obtain 12 lead EKG
  • IV Therapy/Phlebotomy:
    • Blood product administration
    • Phlebotomy
    • Starting IVs
  • Medication Administration:
    • Continuous IV sedation
    • Emergency medications
    • IV vasopressors
    • Procedural sedation administration
  • Neurological Cases:
    • CVA (stroke)
    • Spinal cord injury
    • Traumatic brain injury
  • Orthopedic Skills:
    • Manage and apply splints
  • Pediatric Cases:
    • Abdominal pain, asthma, head injury
    • Identifying and reporting abuse
    • Infections, poison ingestion, respiratory infections
    • Seizures, skin disorders
  • Psychiatric Cases:
    • Acute psychosis
    • Drug overdose
    • Managing violent behavior
    • Suicidal patients
  • Respiratory Cases:
    • Chest tube insertion/management
    • Intubation
  • Professional Skills:
    • Isolation precautions
    • Triage
  • Electronic Medical Record: Cerner experience required

Scheduling & Work Environment

  • No on-call required
  • No floating outside scope of practice
  • Open to block scheduling (discuss with manager)
  • Locals accepted with no radius restrictions
  • Guaranteed hours with some allowance for client call-offs

Required Documentation & Compliance

  • Valid US Driver’s License or State ID
  • Background checks covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years
  • Education verification (degree/transcript/diploma)
  • Primary source verification of certifications and state license
  • Competency exam required for clinical candidates
  • Badge photo (color, plain background)
  • Signed Code of Conduct
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start, including labs
  • Fit mask test (specific mask types required)
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
  • TB questionnaire updated annually
  • Immunizations or documented immunity for:
    • Measles (Rubeola)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Hepatitis B
    • Varicella
  • 9-panel drug screen within 30 days of start
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required annually
  • Professional references (2) required for clinical candidates
  • State-specific criminal and offender registry searches as required by Illinois

This position is ideal for Emergency Department RNs with at least 2 years of experience who are comfortable working night shifts in a high-acuity, Level I trauma center environment. The role requires strong clinical skills across adult, pediatric, neurological, orthopedic, psychiatric, and respiratory emergencies, with proficiency in Cerner EMR. First-time travel nurses are welcome to apply.
