Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (NICU) - Akron, Ohio

Position Details

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse (NICU)

  • Contract Length: 12 weeks (3 months)
  • Shift: 3x12 hour days
  • Float Requirement: Heavy float to PICU and may be asked to float to Summa location in addition to Akron main campus. Float is required.

Required Qualifications

  • Licensure: Ohio or Compact RN license in hand required
  • Education: BSN required
  • Certifications:
    • BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA only (RQI acceptable)
    • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) - AAP/AHA only
    • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) preferred for PICU float
    • STABLE certification preferred (required for NICU; can be completed onsite)
  • Experience:
    • Pediatric experience required
    • Stable experience preferred
  • Additional Certifications Preferred:
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) for certain units
    • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) preferred for PICU & ER
    • CNOR preferred for OR float

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years of clinical practice in an acute care setting, preferably in pediatrics or NICU.
  • Pediatric experience is mandatory.
  • Prior travel experience is not explicitly required.

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

  • Valid government-issued photo ID required.
  • 7-year criminal background check including SSN trace, counties lived/worked, statewide, national criminal, nationwide sex offender, FACIS Level 3, OFAC, education verification.
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required and must be updated annually or after breaks in service over 30 days.
  • Ohio BCI and FBI fingerprint results required within 1 month of start; must be updated annually.
  • Education verification or diploma/transcript required.
  • Physical exam within 12 months of start, updated annually.
  • Immunizations and titers required:
    • Tdap within 10 years
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella (positive titer or 2 vaccinations)
    • Hepatitis B (titer, vaccine series, or signed declination)
    • Varicella (positive titer or 2 vaccinations)
  • Standard 10-panel drug screen within 30 days of start; new screen required after breaks in service over 30 days.
  • Flu vaccine or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Nov 15 - May 31).
  • Two positive professional references required, including at least one from the most recent employer.
  • Employment application must include 3 years prior work history with at least 2 years clinical practice in acute care in a similar area.
  • Unit-specific skills checklist and competency exams required, updated annually.
  • Facility-specific documents including HIPAA/confidentiality agreements, computer security agreement, float policy, and others must be signed.
  • Orientation safety manual acknowledgement required annually.

Additional Notes

  • This is a Magnet facility.
  • Must be willing to float heavily to PICU and other pediatric units.
  • STABLE certification can be completed onsite without prior approval.
  • Fingerprint clearance attestation required for Ohio.
  • Candidate must complete certain facility-specific forms within 72 hours of signed contract to initiate access.

This position is ideal for experienced pediatric or NICU RNs with a BSN and required certifications who are comfortable with floating and working in a Magnet-designated hospital setting.
