Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse – Behavioral Health
Location: Dunn, North Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Details
- Specialty: Registered Nurse (RN) – Behavioral Health / Medical-Surgical / Telemetry
- Required Years of Experience: 2 years in Medical-Surgical/Telemetry (highest stated)
- Prior Travel Experience: Not required (first-timers accepted)
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
- Float Requirement: Must be comfortable floating between units within scope, specifically between two hospital locations
- Scheduling: No block scheduling accommodations
- Locals: Not accepted (50-mile radius rule applies)
- Pending License: Not accepted
- On-call: Not required
- Guaranteed Hours: Call-off policy allows 2 shifts off per 13-week assignment; otherwise, hours are guaranteed
- Return Staff Policy: Must be gone for 1 year before returning as a traveler
- Contract Limit: Maximum of 2 contracts (can extend once), then must be off for 6 months before returning
Patient Ratios
- Nurse to Patient Ratio: 1:5-6
Certifications Required
- BLS (Basic Life Support) – AHA or Military only
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) – Required for specific units (ED, ICUs, etc.)
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) – Required for certain units (ED, OR, PICU, PACU)
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) – Required for L&D, FCCU, NICU units
- NIH Stroke Certification – Must be updated annually for applicable units
- Pass/Fail Testing (EKG/Medication) – Required for awareness in various units; candidates have 3 attempts to pass with remediation policies in place
- Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam – Must be completed via Relias and renewed annually; required for specific units
Background and Health Requirements
- Background Check: Required within 6 months of start; includes SSN trace, 7-year county residence, nationwide search, sex offender search, and international search if applicable
- Physical Exam: Required within 1 year, signed by physician, NP, or PA-C; must be updated annually
- Immunizations & Titers:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within last 10 years; no declinations accepted for new hires)
- Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella – Titer or 2 vaccines required (no declinations for new hires)
- Hepatitis B – Vaccine series, positive titer, or signed declination accepted
- Varicella – Titer or 2 vaccines required (no declinations for new hires)
- TB Screening: Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year of start; annual renewal required
- Drug Testing: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 30 days prior to start (specific substances listed)
- Flu Vaccine: Required year-round; exemptions allowed only with approved medical or religious documentation; flu season vaccine deadline November 10, 2025
- COVID-19 Vaccine: Not required but accepted if available
Facility & Job Specifics
- Facility Type: Short-term acute care hospital
- Charting System: Epic
- Scrub Colors: Royal blue and white
- Must provide a professional passport-style photo for badge (no large earrings, face piercings, unnatural hair colors, or head coverings unless religious)
- Required to complete various facility-specific documents prior to start, including job description review, confidentiality agreements, emergency contact forms, and others
- Orientation: Typically a full day on Monday with unit representative and schedule distribution
- Parking registration required if driving to work
Additional Notes
- Candidates must comply with all facility policies including professional appearance, computer use, and corporate code of conduct
- Candidates must complete required modules through Workday prior to start
- Return travelers must adhere to system contract limits and return policies
This position is suitable for RNs with at least 2 years of experience in Medical-Surgical or Telemetry, comfortable with behavioral health settings, and willing to float between units. First-time travel nurses are welcome to apply.
