Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - Neuro ICU (Travel/Contract)

Location: New Haven, Connecticut
Contract Length: 13 weeks (approximately 3 months)

Job Details

  • Unit: Neuro ICU
  • Patient Ratios: Average 1:2 (days and nights)
  • Required Specialty Experience: Minimum 2 years Neuro ICU experience
  • First-time Travelers: Accepted
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
  • On-call: Not required
  • Floating: May float within scope to meet facility needs
  • Block Schedule: Not accommodated
  • Pending License: Accepted
  • Return to Origin (RTO) Restrictions: RTO greater than 7 days requires approval
  • Guaranteed Hours: Yes

Required Certifications

  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) Certification
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA or ARC only
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA or ARC only

Background and Compliance Requirements

  • 7-year criminal background check required within 12 months of start; must be updated annually
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start
  • Education verification required, including foreign equivalency evaluation for internationally educated RNs
  • Verification of highest level of education mandatory
  • Employment application must include 7 years of work history with no gaps greater than 90 days
  • Work history verification required for last 7 years for all start dates on/after 8/2/2024
  • Attestation of prior radiation exposure required for certain tech roles (not applicable for RN)

Competency and Testing Requirements

  • Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (must score 85%) within 12 months of start
  • Color Blind Testing (required for all candidates on/after 8/2/2024; must score 80%)
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam required for ICU and telemetry units (not required for NICU or Behavioral Health)

Health and Immunization Requirements

  • Physical exam within 12 months of start
  • Fit mask test within 12 months of start; must be updated annually (clean shaven required)
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray documentation required
  • Annual TB questionnaire required
  • Immunizations or proof of immunity required for:
    • Rubeola (Measles)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Hepatitis B (or declination within 1 year)
    • Varicella
  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccination highly preferred for Pediatric specialties, Labor and Delivery, and Postpartum (declination accepted)
  • 10 Panel Drug Screen within 12 months of start
  • Seasonal Flu Vaccination or medical/religious exemption required during flu season (09/01 - 03/31); declinations not allowed
  • COVID vaccination series preferred

Facility-Specific Training and Documentation

  • Stroke Education Module and Attestation (not required for Pediatric specialties and NICU)
  • CLABSI Prevention Training for Adult and Pediatric patients
  • Preventing Pressure Injury Training
  • Language Services Training
  • CAUTI Education Training (except PICU, NICU, Psychiatry/Behavioral Health)
  • Patient Transportation with Oxygen Education
  • Suicide Risk and Environmental Assessment Training
  • Pyxis ES MedStation Training and Attestation
  • Baxter Pump Interoperability Training
  • Patient Bedside Rounding Module (except OR, Behavioral Health, Ambulatory, ER/ED)
  • Ventricular Assist Device Awareness Training
  • AME Blood Administration Module (except Case Managers, Behavioral Health/Psych, Home Health)
  • New Employee Orientation Module
  • 21st Century Cures Act Module (required for RN except Home Health)
  • ED Handbook (for ED/ER RNs only)
  • eCart Training Module (not required for Pediatric, Periop/OR, Outpatient, Case Managers, Home Health)
  • Chaperone Policy Training
  • EPIC Testing (optional but highly encouraged for those with EPIC experience)
  • Vaccination Booster Medical Exemption form (if applicable)

Additional Notes

  • Neuro ICU experience is mandatory for this role.
  • Prior travel experience is not explicitly required.
  • Floating may be required within the scope of practice.
  • Weekend work is every other weekend.
  • Pending licenses are accepted.
  • Block scheduling is not available.
