Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (PCU-Nights)
Location: Fayetteville, North Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Details
- Unit: Progressive Care Unit (PCU) - Nights, PST shift
- Start Dates: Only 3/9 or 3/23 starts available, no earlier starts
- Shift: 3/9 or 3/23 shifts only
- Patient Ratios: 1:4-5
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
- On-call: No
- Floating: Yes, must float within scope to meet facility needs or between like units
- Block Scheduling: Open to accommodating
- Locals Accepted: No (50-mile radius rule from main campus)
- Pending License: Not accepted
- Guaranteed Hours: Call off policy of 2 shifts per 13-week assignment; after that, all contracted shifts are guaranteed
- Return Staff Policy: Must be gone for 1 year to return as a traveler
- Contract Limit: 2 contracts max (can extend once), then must be gone for 6 months to return
- First-timers Accepted: Yes
Experience & Certification Requirements
- Years of Experience Required: 2 years in specialty (Registered Nurse)
- Prior Travel Experience: Not explicitly required
- Certifications Required:
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- NIH Stroke Certification
- Competency Exams:
- Must pass Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam (annual renewal required)
- Must pass Pass/Fail Testing (EKG/Medication) with minimum 80% score within 3 attempts
- Special Testing: Must pass EKG exam (no exceptions)

Background & Health Requirements

- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
- Immunizations required:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within last 10 years)
- Rubeola (Measles) - titer or 2 vaccines
- Mumps - titer or 2 vaccines
- Rubella - titer or 2 vaccines
- Hepatitis B - vaccine series, positive titer, or signed declination
- Varicella - titer or 2 vaccines
- Drug testing: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 30 days
- Flu vaccine required year-round; medical or religious exemptions accepted with facility approval
- COVID-19 vaccine not required but accepted if available
Additional Notes
- Must provide a professional passport-style photo for badge (no large earrings, face piercings, unnatural hair colors, or head coverings unless for religious reasons)
- Several facility-specific documents must be reviewed and signed prior to start, including job description, confidentiality agreements, and various acknowledgments
- Orientation typically occurs on Monday, with schedule provided by unit representative
- Parking registration required if driving to work
This position is ideal for Registered Nurses with at least 2 years of experience who are comfortable working night shifts in a progressive care setting and meeting certification and competency requirements. First-time travelers are welcome to apply.
