Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (PCU) - Travel/Contract

Location: Fayetteville, North Carolina
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Position Details

  • Unit: Progressive Care Unit (PCU) - Days, PST shift
  • Start Dates: Only 3/9 or 3/23 starts available, no earlier starts
  • Patient Ratios: 1:4-5
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
  • On-call: Not required
  • Float Requirement: Must float within scope to meet facility needs/float between like units
  • Block Scheduling: Open to accommodating
  • Locals Accepted: No (50-mile radius rule from main campus)
  • Pending License: Not accepted
  • Guaranteed Hours: Call off policy allows 2 shifts off per 13-week assignment; after that, all contracted hours are guaranteed
  • Travel Pairs: Not accepted
  • Return Staff Policy: Must be gone for 1 year to return as a traveler
  • Contract Limit: Maximum of 2 contracts (can extend once), then must be gone for 6 months before returning

Experience & Certifications

  • Required Specialty Experience: Minimum 2 years as a Registered Nurse (PCU or related experience)
  • First-time Travelers: Accepted
  • Certifications Required:
    • BLS (Basic Life Support)
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
    • NIH Stroke Certification
  • Competency Exam: Must pass Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam (annual renewal required)
  • Pass/Fail Testing: EKG/Medication pass/fail testing required with a minimum score of 80% (3 attempts allowed)
  • EKG Exam: Must pass EKG exam, no exceptions

Background & Health Requirements

  • Background check required within 6 months of start (includes SSN trace, 7-year county residence, nationwide search, sex offender search, and international search if applicable)
  • Physical exam required within 1 year, updated annually
  • Negative 10-panel drug test within 30 days (specific substances tested)
  • Immunizations and titers required:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within last 10 years)
    • Measles (Rubeola)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Hepatitis B (vaccine series, positive titer, or signed declination)
    • Varicella
  • TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year of start
  • Flu vaccine required year-round; medical or religious exemptions require facility approval and documentation
  • COVID-19 vaccine not required but accepted if available

    • Confidentiality and Information Agreement
    • Patient Identification Agreement
    • Conflict of Interest Questionnaire
    • Staff Call Out Acknowledgement
    • Corporate Code of Conduct Acknowledgement
    • Policy Tech Access Acknowledgement
    • Professional Appearance Acknowledgment
    • Parking Registration (if driving)
    • Computer Use Acknowledgement
  • Photo for badge required (passport-style, professional, no large earrings, face piercings, unnatural hair colors, or head coverings unless for religious reasons)
  • Must complete facility orientation and modules prior to start (due Monday before start date)

Additional Notes

  • Prior travel experience is not required for this position
  • Candidates must be able to pass all required competency exams and certifications before starting
  • The unit does not accept travel pairs, and locals within 50 miles are not accepted due to radius rule

This position is ideal for Registered Nurses with at least 2 years of experience in PCU or similar acute care settings who are comfortable with weekend shifts, floating between units, and meeting strict competency and certification requirements.
