Job Opportunity: Medical Surgical Oncology Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: Portland, Oregon
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: 36 hours per week, Nights
Patient Ratios: 1:1 to 1:3
Facility Type: Short-Term Acute Care, Magnet, Teaching, Level I Trauma Center

Job Description
- Specialty: Medical Oncology RN
- Start Dates Available: Multiple options in late March and early April
- Patient Diagnoses: Leukemia, Lymphoma, Myeloma, Sickle Cell, Symptom Management
- Special Procedures/Unit Details:
- Chemotherapy/Biotherapy
- Stem Cell Infusions
- CAR-T Therapy
- Bone Marrow Biopsies
- Lumbar Punctures
- Blood Product Transfusions
- Central Line Care
- Floating: Yes, within scope to Acute Care/Intermediate Care (IMC) units
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
- On-call: No
- Block Scheduling: Not guaranteed
- Locals Accepted: Yes
- Pending License Accepted: Yes (must have application submitted and received by licensing board for 90-day license exemption)
Experience & Certifications
- Required Specialty Experience: Minimum 1 year in medical oncology (highest requirement found)
- Epic Experience: Preferred but not required
- Prior Travel Experience: Not required
- Certifications Required:
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- Chemotherapy certification (does not have to be ONS)
- Preferred Skills: Chemotherapy competency preferred but not required
Work Environment & Policies
- Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week
- RTO (Request Time Off) Restrictions:
- Max 5 RTO days approved for 13-week contracts
- Requests for more than 5 days require contract extension
- All time off requests must be submitted upfront
- Scrub Color: Any color, no prints (provided)
- Parking: $16 daily pass (8am-5pm), public transportation encouraged
Compliance & Onboarding Requirements
- Valid government-issued photo ID required on first day
- Background Check: Must be completed within 6 months prior to start, including education and work history verification
- Drug Testing: Negative 10-panel with methamphetamines listed, within 3 months prior to start
- Health Documents:
- Physical exam (within 1 year)
- Fit mask test (within 1 year)
- Immunizations and titers including Tdap, TB test or chest x-ray, MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella), Hepatitis B, Varicella
- Flu vaccination or signed declination (for 2025-26 season)
- References: Two manager or supervisor references from the last 24 months required
- Education Verification: Required, BSN preferred
- Competency Exams: Medication test/pharmacology competency exam required (score 85% or higher)
- Facility-specific training modules (Compass) must be completed prior to start for badge issuance
Additional Notes
- Candidates must be fully available for compliance needs up until start date
- Facility requires signing of professional appearance policy, job description, coronavirus protocol attestation, and vaccine declination/waiver if applicable
- Onsite respirator fit testing available if not completed prior to start
- Facility is a Magnet, Teaching, Level I Trauma Center with a focus on oncology care
This position is ideal for RNs with oncology experience seeking a travel contract in a high-acuity, teaching hospital environment with specialized oncology procedures.
