Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse – Stepdown Cardiac Unit
Location: Dayton, Ohio
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
Seeking a Registered Nurse with Stepdown (SD) or Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience for a travel contract position. ICU experience does not count toward SD/PCU experience requirement. Targeted patient ratios are 1:5-6.
Experience Requirements
- Minimum 1.5 years nursing experience
- Must have Stepdown (SD) or PCU experience with demonstrated 1:5 patient ratio experience in work history
- Level 1 or 2 experience preferred
- Travel experience preferred (not required)
Required Skills & Certifications
- EPIC experience
- Ability to pass an online EKG telemetry competency assessment before starting
- BLS and NIH Stroke Certification required; ACLS preferred
- IV start competency
- Ability to read and interpret EKG strips
- Nurses will be fitted for N95 respirators prior to working on the HRRU unit unless PAPR is needed/offered
Floating & Scheduling
- Traveler will float at Premier’s discretion within specialty clusters
- Floating may include multiple campuses within 10-15 miles of main campus
- Must be available to work every other weekend and holidays
- Employer reserves the right to cancel up to 2 shifts per 13-week contract due to low census
- Employer may cancel contract with 2 weeks’ notice without penalty
Unit Details
- Unit: Advanced Care Unit (Stepdown Cardiac)
- Typical patients: heart failure, chest pain rule out, NSTEMI, post-procedure, COPD exacerbation, drug/alcohol overdose and withdrawal
- Competency required to manage IV drips such as heparin, nitroglycerin, amiodarone, Cardizem, insulin, etc.
- Daily average census: 31 patients
- Dress code: Navy blue scrubs
Documentation & Compliance Requirements
- I-9 and E-Verify completed on branded forms
- Government-issued photo ID required
- Background checks including 7-year criminal check, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG
- Fingerprinting required only for select units (not required for this position)
- Education verification and licensure primary source verification required
- Certifications required: ACLS (preferred), BLS, NIH Stroke Certification, Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam (must pass within 3 attempts)
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam within 2 years
- Physical exam within 2 years indicating fitness for work
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray; annual TB questionnaire if past positive
- Required immunizations or proof of immunity: Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B (vaccination series, titer, or declination)
- Drug screening: 9 or 10 panel negative drug screen including marijuana panel within 12 months
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season
- Respiratory safety clearance within 1 year, renewed annually
- References: 2 professional references within 2 years, including 1 manager/supervisor/charge nurse
- Current resume/application required
- Skills checklist updated within 1 year
Additional Notes
- Prior ICU experience does not substitute for Stepdown/PCU experience
- Travel experience is preferred but not mandatory
- Floating assignments will be medically appropriate and within reasonable distance
- Travelers are not eligible for employee incentives
