Job Opportunity: CVOR Registered Nurse
Location: New Brunswick, New Jersey
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Position Overview
- Specialty: Registered Nurse (CVOR)
- Minimum Experience Required: 3+ years in specialty (highest stated requirement)
- Prior travel experience: Not required; first-time travelers will be considered, though experience is highly preferred
- On Call Requirement: 32 total hours per month
- No block schedule; locals accepted
- RNs will float to Main OR if no CVOR cases available
Clinical Responsibilities & Patient Mix
- Scrub experience required for open CVOR cases and TAVR procedures
- Patient population includes open heart adult surgery, CABG, and valve surgeries (aortic, mitral, pulmonic)
- Required knowledge of devices: Impella, HeartMate, ECMO, laser lead extractions, and TAVR (also performed in Main OR)
Required Certifications
- BLS (Basic Life Support): Required for all RNs
- CNOR: Preferred but not mandatory
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support): Required for all adult critical care units and preferred for Behavioral Health
- Other certifications may be required depending on unit assignment (confirm with program coordinator)
Compliance & Documentation Requirements
- Background Checks: Criminal background check required within 30 days of start; must include all aliases and locations worked/lived in past 7 years
- Drug Screening: 10-panel urine drug screen required within 30 days of start
- Health Documents:
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 3 months of start
- Physical exam within the past 12 months, cleared to perform essential job functions and free of communicable disease
- Seasonal influenza vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required annually
- Fit test and respiratory medical clearance required prior to start
- Immunizations: Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B, Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (documentation of immunity or vaccination required)
- Competency Exams: Medication test/pharmacology, dysrhythmia/EKG competency, and other unit-specific competency exams required within 72 hours of signing contract
- References: Two references within last 2 years, including at least one managerial reference
- Employment History: 7 years of work history required, with verification of at least 1 year prior to start date (New Jersey state mandate)
Additional Notes
- Hospital provides scrubs
- Floating policy applies; must complete floating policy documentation for every new assignment or site transfer
- Pass/fail testing (EKG, medication) required with remediation process if failed
- Management of Assaultive Behavior (MAB) certification required for ER, Pediatric ER, and Behavioral Health RNs (not mandatory for CVOR)
- Annual education sign-off and facility-specific orientation required prior to start
- Color blindness testing required if job tasks involve color discrimination
- Candidates with name changes must provide proof and include all names in background checks
