Job Details

  • Unit: Emergency Room (Level I Trauma, Urban setting)
  • Patient Ratio: 1:4
  • Required Experience: Minimum 1 year in specialty
  • Experience Requirements:
    • Must have prior experience in an urban, Level I Trauma Emergency Department
    • Experience in a teaching hospital preferred
  • Prior Travel Experience: Not explicitly required (first-timers accepted)
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
  • Floating: Required
  • Charting System: Epic
  • Block Schedule: Not accommodated
  • Locals Accepted: Yes
  • Pending License: Not accepted
  • Return to Office Restrictions: Maximum 7 days

Required Certifications

  • BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA provider or AHA RQI only
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA provider or AHA RQI only
  • NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) - AHA provider or AHA RQI only
  • CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) - Required for ER clinical candidates; can be completed onsite twice per month

Preferred Certifications:

  • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course)
  • CPI (if not already held)

Licensure & Verification

  • Must have a valid RN license
  • Primary source license verification required within 30 days of assignment start
  • NURSYS verification required within 30 days of start
  • Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) fingerprinting required if no Illinois state license

Health & Compliance Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year, updated annually
  • Fit mask test within 1 year (specific approved masks)
  • Negative 9-panel drug test within 30 days of start
  • Immunizations and titers (must be completed within 2 business days of contract signing):
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray (if positive TB history)
    • Rubeola (Measles)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Hepatitis B (declination allowed)
    • Varicella
  • Flu seasonal vaccination/documentation or approved medical/religious exemption required
  • COVID-19 religious or medical exemption forms available (facility-specific process)

Documentation & Background Checks

  • Valid Driver’s License or State ID required
  • 7-year background check including aliases, sex offender, criminal, federal, and education verification
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start
  • Education verification required (ADN or BSN minimum)
  • Employment verification for last 7 years, including explanation of gaps over 30 days
  • Skills checklist for assigned and float units, updated annually
  • Two professional references required

Additional Notes

  • Photo for badge required (passport style, plain background, no headgear)
  • Facility orientation modules (~2 hours) must be completed before start
  • Candidates must complete all required health and compliance documents promptly to avoid delays
  • Floating to other units may be required

This position is ideal for RNs with at least 1 year of ER experience in a Level I Trauma urban setting who are comfortable working weekends and floating. First-time travel nurses are welcome to apply.
