Experience & Licensure Requirements

• Minimum Years of Experience: 2 years (Behavioral Health or ED RN with Behavioral Health experience accepted)
• Licensure: North Carolina or Compact nursing license required at time of submission
• Prior Travel Experience: Not required

Certifications Required

• BLS (Basic Life Support) – AHA only
• CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) – Training provided during orientation; valid for 2 years
• Additional Certifications: ACLS, PALS, NRP, CHEMO, NIH Stroke Certification may be required depending on unit specifics (refer to orientation/unit details)

Key Job Requirements

• Must be able to work every other weekend
• Flu vaccine is mandatory with no exemptions
• Behavioral Health experience preferred; ED RNs with BH experience will be considered
• Must have all required documentation and clearances prior to start

Documentation & Compliance Requirements

• Background Checks: Must be completed within 90 days of start, including SSN trace, county checks, sex offender, education verification, and others as applicable
• Health Documents:

  • Physical exam within 12 months
  • Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 12 months
  • Immunizations: Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella, Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap, Polio
  • Drug testing: Negative 10-panel within 30 days of start
  • Seasonal flu vaccination for the current flu season (October through March)
• References: Two professional references required from employment within the last 12 months, at least one must be a supervisor
• Skills Checklist: Must be updated annually
• Employment Application: Required with 7 years of work history

Additional Notes

• Candidates must set up a Duke Guest Account prior to clearance to access orientation and work systems
• Competency exams and unit-specific training will be required during orientation
• Candidates must complete all online modules prior to orientation
• Candidate Behavioral Health CPI training includes a module and in-house training during orientation
