Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (RN) – Neuro MedSurg (6 West)

Location: Morgantown, West Virginia
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Unit Details

• Unit: 6 West - Neuro
• Beds: 20 beds (14 floor)
• Patient Ratios: 1:5-6 for floor patients
• Nurse Aids: Yes, 3 per shift with ratios of 1:7-10
• Charge Nurse: Available 24/7
• Respiratory Therapy: RT available 24/7; floor vents managed by RT and physicians; no vent experience required for RNs
• Telemetry: Available; RNs do not read strips but verify monitor tech’s readings in Epic

Patient Population & Common Diagnoses

• Neurosciences
• Deep Brain Stimulators (DBS)
• Stroke
• Seizures
• Surgical/Post-Op Spines
• Neurological Disorders

Required Certifications & Skills

• Certifications:

  • BLS (AHA) – required
  • NIHSS – required and must be in hand at time of submission
  • ACLS – preferred
• Experience:

  • Strong overall Neuro experience required
  • Recent Epic experience required
  • Proficiency and frequent use of G-tubes
• Additional Notes:

  • Any background hits must be disclosed at time of submission
  • This unit does not require stepdown RN experience

Clinical Responsibilities

• Drip Titration:

  • Only by physician’s orders in a step-down setting
  • Some protocols may allow titration with education provided
• Common Drips:

  • Amiodarone, Cardizem, Nitro, Dopamine, Nipride, Ketamine, Lasix, Bumex, Insulin

Scheduling & Work Requirements

• Weekend Shifts:

  • Weekend day positions: Friday, Saturday, Sunday
  • Weekend night positions: Friday-Sunday OR Saturday-Monday
  • Weekday nights: every other weekend or 3 weekend shifts per schedule
• Holiday Work: Travelers expected to participate in holiday rotation
• Floating: Possible float to 7E, 7W, 7NE, or 10E as first priority, then other hospital units if needed
• Orientation: 1 shift on the unit; weekend nights (7pm-7:30am)

Dress Code

• Any combination of white and royal blue

Experience Requirements

• Neuro Specialty Experience: Strong neuro experience required (years not explicitly stated, but must be proficient)
• Prior Travel Experience: Not specified or required

This position is ideal for RNs with solid neuro med-surg experience, recent Epic proficiency, and required certifications including NIHSS and BLS. Flexibility with weekend and holiday shifts is necessary.
