Job Opportunity: Operating Room Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: Huntington, West Virginia
Contract Length: 13 weeks (approximately 3 months)

  • Regional, 303-bed academic medical center
  • Serves patients from over 29 counties in West Virginia, eastern Kentucky, and southern Ohio
  • One of the ten largest general hospitals in West Virginia

Job Details

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse - Operating Room (OR RN)
  • Start Date: ASAP
  • Call Coverage:
    • Cover 4 call shifts per month
    • 3 week calls (Monday-Friday) either Evening (5pm-11pm) or Night (11pm-7am)
    • 1 weekend call (Saturday or Sunday) either 7am-7pm or 7pm-7am
  • Charting System: Cerner
  • Scrubs Provided

Required Experience & Skills

  • Strong experience in Orthopedics, Neurology, and Trauma required
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
  • Advanced certifications such as ACLS, PALS, NRP, and TNCC may be required as applicable

Certifications & Competencies Required

  • BLS (AHA only)
  • ACLS (AHA only, as required)
  • PALS (as required)
  • NRP (as required)
  • TNCC (as required)
  • NIH Stroke Certification (required for all RNs except OR RNs; must be completed onsite within 2 weeks if not held prior)
  • Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) certification required for ICU areas
  • Medication/Pharmacology Competency Exam
  • Core competency exams and HIPAA training

Licensure & Verification

  • Valid State Nursing License with Primary Source Verification
  • NURSYS verification required for all RNs

Background & Health Requirements

  • 7-year criminal background check within 1 year of start, updated annually
  • Background checks must cover all locations lived/worked in past 7 years
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start and updated for renewals
  • Physical exam within 1 year attesting ability to meet physical demands
  • Immunizations and titers required:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years)
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
    • Annual TB questionnaire
    • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella (MMR) - positive titer or 2 vaccines (boosters may pend at start)
    • Hepatitis B (titer, vaccine series, or declination)
    • Varicella - positive titer or 2 vaccines (boosters may pend at start)
  • Seasonal flu vaccination required (declinations not accepted unless approved medical or religious exemption)
  • COVID-19 seasonal vaccine required; declination form required if opting out

Facility-Specific Requirements

  • Completion of facility orientation and annual education modules prior to or shortly after start
  • Completion of confidentiality, attestation, IT access, and other facility-specific forms before start
  • N95 fit test completed onsite at orientation (male candidates must be clean-shaven)
  • Drug screening within 30 days of start, including a comprehensive panel of substances
  • Proof of 2 clinical references or hospital evaluations
  • Skills checklist updated annually for applicable units

  • Prior travel experience is not explicitly required for this position

  • Call coverage expectations require flexibility with evenings, nights, and weekends
