Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (PCU) - Travel/Contract
Location: Indianapolis, Indiana
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
Seeking a Registered Nurse for a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) in a cardio-pulmonary mixed model unit with 32 beds (15 PCU, 17 MedSurg). The patient population includes cardiac medical cases, valve replacements, COPD, CHF, pulmonary fibrosis, lung cancer, lung transplant (pre/post), trach-to-vent patients, neurodegenerative diseases, trauma cases, flu, TB, and COVID-19.
Requirements
Experience
- Minimum 2 years of nursing experience required.
- Candidates with MedSurg RN background plus ICU and PCU patient experience with an additional 2 years will also be considered.
- Prior travel experience is not explicitly required.
Certifications
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA or RQI accepted
- BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA or RQI accepted
- Other certifications may be required depending on unit assignment (e.g., PALS, NRP, CHEMO, TNCC, NIH Stroke Certification) - verify as applicable.
Licensure
- Valid Indiana RN license with online verification within 30 days of start.
Floating
- Nurses may be required to float between Med-Surg, PCU, and ICU units with provided resources and training.
Staffing Ratios
- PCU: 1 nurse to 4 patients
- MedSurg: 1 nurse to 5-6 patients (sometimes mixed with PCU patients in assignments of 4-5 patients)
Work Schedule
- Travelers expected to work every other weekend per contract; consecutive weekends may be required based on operational needs.
- Call-in shifts must be made up or added to the end of the contract depending on FTE status.
Additional Job Duties
- Charge nurse responsibilities may be required with training and resources provided.
- Precepting and/or student shadowing is expected as this is a teaching facility.
Health & Compliance Requirements
- COVID-19 vaccine required (medical or religious exemptions accepted with documentation).
- Physical exam within 12 months of start.
- Fit mask test within 12 months (specific approved respirators required).
- Tuberculosis screening (PPD, QuantiFERON, or T-SPOT) within 1 year of start.
- Immunizations or titers required for:
- Rubeola (Measles)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Varicella
- Hepatitis B (series, titer, or signed declination)
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption required annually.
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 12 months of start.
- Color blindness exam (Ishihara or equivalent) required.
Documentation & Compliance
- Background checks including criminal, sex offender, and education verification required.
- Employment application with full work history and explanation of gaps required.
- Minimum of 2 professional references from recent employment with supervisory titles required.
- Skills checklist and competency exams required annually.
- Completion of facility-specific orientation, safety, and compliance modules prior to start.
- HIPAA and confidentiality agreements must be acknowledged.
Important Notes
- Local candidates are not accepted; this is a travel/contract position only.
- Indiana RN’s will not be allowed to work at this facility after 11/30/2024, except for Periop/OR, Allied, and Ambulatory RN travelers.
- Teaching facility expectations include precepting and student assignments.
