Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (RN) - MedSurg (5th Floor)

Location: Martinsburg, West Virginia
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Unit Details

• Unit: MedSurg - 5th Floor
• Beds: 35 (can increase up to 42; includes 9 semi-private & 17 private rooms)
• Patient Types: Wide variety including altered mental status, cardiac patients (no active chest pain), renal patients, cancer, stroke overflow, TBI, appendectomy, chest tubes, wounds, etc.
• Common Procedures: Dressing changes (wound nurse on days), no hips/knees (these go to ortho)

Certifications & Experience

• Required: BLS (AHA)
• Preferred: ACLS
• Specialty Experience: MedSurg (5th Floor) — 5 years experience recommended based on specialty title
• Prior Travel Experience: Not explicitly required

Work Environment & Schedule

• Shifts: 12-hour shifts (7:00 AM - 7:30 PM) for both day and night
• Scheduling: Use Kronos for schedule requests; clinical coordinator enters and manager approves schedules at least 2 weeks in advance for 4 weeks at a time. Block scheduling allowed if in contract. Nights usually scheduled in blocks.
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
• Holidays: Expected to work as needed based on unit needs
• Floating: May float to any MedSurg unit except Emergency Department or Behavioral Health
• Orientation: 1-2 shifts with a preceptor

Patient Care & Clinical Details

• Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:5-6 for both shifts
• EMR System: EPIC
• Charge Nurse: Available 24/7
• Nurse Aides: Patient Care Technicians (PCT) available
• Telemetry: Yes, monitored remotely
• Nurse's Read Strips: Not used, but basic arrhythmia knowledge and ability to recognize fatal rhythms required
• IV Drips: Only IV fluids like Heparin or Protonix; no titrating or cardiac drips
• Ventilators: Bipap, Cpap, High Flow available
• Hospitalist: In-house 24/7
• Respiratory Therapist: Available 24/7
• Pharmacy: In-house 24/7 with Omnicell system
• IV Team: Not available

Additional Requirements & Notes

• COVID-19 Vaccine: Fully vaccinated required (2 doses Moderna or Pfizer, or 1 dose J&J). Medical or religious exemptions require approval.
• Dress Code: Navy blue scrubs or white jacket; undershirt white or navy; natural hair color only; tattoos must be covered if excessive or distasteful.
• Background Checks: Any background issues must be disclosed at time of submission.
• Driver’s License: Must have an address outside 50 miles from the facility.
