Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (ER) - Travel/Contract

Location: Harvey, Illinois

Job Details

  • Unit: Emergency Room (Level I Trauma, Urban setting)
  • Patient Ratio: 1:4
  • Required Experience: Minimum 1 year in specialty
  • Experience Requirements:
    • Prior experience in an urban, Level I Trauma Emergency Department required
    • Experience in a teaching hospital preferred
  • Prior Travel Experience: Not explicitly required (first-timers accepted)
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
  • Floating Requirement: Yes
  • Charting System: Epic
  • Block Schedule: Not accommodated
  • Locals Accepted: Yes
  • Pending License: Not accepted
  • Return to Office Restrictions: Maximum 7 days

Required Certifications

  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
  • NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)

Preferred Certifications:

  • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course)
  • CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute)

Health & Compliance Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year, updated annually
  • Fit mask test within 1 year (specific mask models required)
  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccination or declination (within 2 business days of contract signing)
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray (within 2 business days of contract signing)
  • TB questionnaire if positive TB test
  • Proof of immunity or vaccination for:
    • Rubeola (Measles)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Hepatitis B (declination allowed)
    • Varicella
  • Negative 9-panel drug test within 30 days of start
  • Seasonal flu vaccination/documentation or approved medical/religious exemption (flu season Oct-Mar)

Background & Documentation Requirements

  • Valid Driver’s License or State ID
  • 7-year background check including aliases and multiple federal/state databases
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start
  • Education verification (ADN or BSN required)
  • State license primary source verification within 30 days of start
  • NURSYS verification for RN license within 30 days of start
  • Employment application with 7 years of work history and explanation of gaps over 30 days
  • Skills checklist updated annually for assigned and float units
  • Employment verification for 7 years (third party or in-house)
  • Two professional references required
  • Photo for badge (passport style, plain background)
  • Completion of facility orientation modules prior to start (approx. 2 hours)

State-Specific Requirements (Illinois)

  • Fingerprinting and addition to Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) Health Care Worker Registry required if position does not require an Illinois state license
  • Fingerprints must be completed in Illinois no later than the Monday before start date

Additional Notes

  • Candidates must meet all certification and health requirements prior to start
  • Religious and medical exemption forms for COVID-19 and influenza vaccines require facility approval and must be submitted at least one week prior to documentation due date
  • First-time travel nurses are accepted for this position
