Job Opportunity: Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse

Location: Jefferson, North Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract

Position Overview

Seeking a Registered Nurse for a Labor and Delivery (LDRP) unit. The unit handles both mother and baby care with approximately 100 births annually. The environment is not very busy but includes higher acuity and high-risk cases requiring strong clinical experience and autonomy.


Required Qualifications

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse (Labor and Delivery)
  • Minimum Years of Experience: 2 years
  • Prior Travel Experience: Not required (1st time travelers accepted)
  • Certifications:
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
    • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
    • AWHONN (Association of Women's Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses)
    • BCLS (Basic Cardiac Life Support)
  • Skills:
    • Fetal Heart Monitoring
  • Preferred: Stable experience

Work Details

  • Shift: 12-hour nights (7 PM - 7 AM), 36 or 48 hours per week
  • Ratios: 1:1 to 1:2 patient ratio
  • Float Requirement: Must float to MedSurg, CNA, secretary, and/or helping hands as needed
  • Weekend Requirement: Determined by department needs
  • Unit Systems: Centricity, Meditech Magic
  • Scrubs: Navy Blue

Patient Population and Unit Details

  • LDRP unit providing care for both mother and newborn
  • Higher acuity and high-risk cases requiring autonomy
  • Approximately 100 births per year

Compliance and Background Requirements

  • Criminal background checks within 90 days for all locations lived in the last 7 years
  • Education verification for highest degree earned (pending verification allowed if license is valid)
  • State-specific healthcare personnel registry and medical assistance exclusion searches within 90 days prior to start
  • Drug screening within 30 days of start (10-panel, negative result required)
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start (30 days if past positive TB)
  • Fit mask testing required (N95 mask within 1 year or PAPR training; PAPR not accepted in lieu of N95 at this facility)
  • Immunizations and titers required:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (no specific timeframe)
    • Negative TB test or chest x-ray per protocol
    • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella (titer or 2 vaccines with boosters if needed)
    • Hepatitis B titer or facility-specific declination form
    • Seasonal Flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption (required during flu season)

Orientation and Training

  • Manager schedules shifts
  • Non-Novant Health Worker Orientation required for travel staff (approx. 8 hours of modules)
  • Medication Safety training module completion required
  • Competency exams as applicable (medication, pharmacology, dysrhythmia/EKG if applicable)
  • Additional unit-specific competencies and certifications may be required

Additional Notes

  • Prior travel experience is not required; unit accepts first-time travelers
  • Must be able to float to other departments as needed
  • Strong clinical skills and ability to work autonomously in a small, high-acuity unit are essential
  • Background checks, immunizations, and compliance documents must be current and uploaded prior to start
  • Candidates must complete all required orientation and training modules before starting assignment

This position offers an opportunity to work in a specialized Labor and Delivery unit with a supportive environment for nurses new to travel assignments.
