Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - MICU (ICU)

Location: Bridgeport, Connecticut
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Position Details

  • Unit: Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU)
  • Shift: 3x12 hour night shifts
  • Schedule: Every other weekend and float as needed
  • Unit Size: 10 bed medical ICU
  • Facility Type: Short term acute care hospital
  • Total Staffed Beds: 426
  • Trauma Level: Level II Trauma Center
  • Charting System: EPIC

Required Qualifications

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse - ICU
  • Experience: Minimum 2 years ICU experience (highest required)
  • Certifications:
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA or ARC only
    • BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA or ARC only
  • Other Requirements:
    • EPIC experience required
    • Background checks including 7-year criminal background check, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG
    • Education verification and transcript/diploma as applicable
    • Physical exam within 12 months of start
    • Fit mask test within 12 months of start, updated annually
    • 10 panel drug screen within 12 months of start
    • Immunizations and health documents including TB test, MMR, Hepatitis B, Varicella, Tdap (preferred for some specialties)
    • Flu vaccination or medical/religious exemption required during flu season
    • COVID vaccination preferred
    • Employment application with 7-year work history and no gaps greater than 90 days
    • Skills checklist and work history verification within 12 months of start

Competencies and Exams

  • Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (must score 85%)
  • Color Blind Testing (required for all candidates starting on/after 8/2/2024, must score 80%)
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam (required for ICU and other specified units)

Facility-Specific Training & Documents (Required)

  • Stroke Education (except pediatric specialties and NICU)
  • CLABSI Prevention for Adult and Pediatric Training
  • Preventing Pressure Injury Training
  • Language Services Training
  • CAUTI Education Training (except PICU, NICU, Psychiatry/Behavioral Health)
  • Patient Transportation with Oxygen Education
  • Suicide Risk and Environmental Assessment Training
  • Pyxis ES MedStation Modules
  • Baxter Pump Interoperability Training
  • Patient Bedside Rounding (except OR, Behavioral Health, Ambulatory, ER/ED)
  • Mobile Heartbeat Alarm (except ER/ED, Pediatrics, ICU, NICU)
  • Ventricular Assist Device Awareness
  • AME Blood Administration Module (except Case Managers, Behavioral Health/Psych, Home Health)
  • New Employee Orientation Module
  • 21st Century Cures Act Module (required for RN except Home Health)
  • ED Handbook (for ED/ER RNs only)
  • eCart Training Module (not required for Pediatric, Periop/OR, Outpatient, Case Managers, Home Health)
  • Chaperone Policy Training

  • Prior travel experience is not explicitly required for this position.
  • Candidates must be prepared to complete all required background checks, certifications, competencies, and facility-specific training modules prior to or shortly after start date.
  • Candidates must maintain compliance with all health and safety requirements including immunizations, drug screening, and fit testing.
