Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (MS/Tele) - Columbus, Ohio
Position Details
- Specialty: Registered Nurse (Medical-Surgical / Telemetry)
- Location: Columbus, Ohio
- Employment Type: Travel/Contract
- Contract Length: 13 weeks
- Schedule:
- 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 AM - 7:30 PM)
- Approximately 36 hours per week
- Weekdays and some weekends
- Rotating holidays
- No on-call required
- Patient Ratio: Approximately 1:4
- Floating: Required to float within units of equivalent or lower acuity
Experience & Skills Requirements
- Minimum Experience: 3 years Medical-Surgical nursing experience (highest required)
- Prior Travel Experience: Preferred but not required
- Required Skills:
- IV Start
- Telemetry
- Required Certifications:
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- Required System Experience:
- EPIC electronic health record system
Certifications & Competencies
- Certifications:
- BLS (AHA Instructor/Provider or RQI acceptable)
- ACLS may be required depending on unit (check unit-specific requirements)
- PALS required only for ER, ER OB, and ER Psych units
- NRP required for L&D, Post-Partum, and OB units
- Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM) certification as applicable
- Competency Exams:
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam (required prior to start)
- Unit-specific competency exams
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required within 1 year of start and updated annually (with remediation process if failed)
Licensure & Background Requirements
- Licensure:
- Valid nursing license verification required within 30 days of start
- NURSYS verification required for RNs
- Residency Declaration Form required if using a compact license from outside Ohio
- Background Checks:
- 7-year criminal background check within 90 days of start, including FBI and BCI fingerprinting (Ohio-specific code 3701.881)
- Monthly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG monitoring
- Education accreditation verification from recognized nursing accrediting bodies (CCNE, ACEN, NLN CNEA, CASN)
- Pending background check attestation required if fingerprint results are pending
- Fingerprinting:
- Ohio BCI & FBI fingerprinting required within 1 year of start
- New fingerprinting required if break in service >90 days or prior results older than 1 year
- Proof of fingerprint completion required for subcontractors
Health & Immunization Requirements
- Physical Exam: Physician documentation within 1 year stating good health and free of contagious disease
- Immunizations/Vaccines:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (adult dose after age 11/12)
- Negative TB test (PPD, QGold, or TSPOT) within 1 year or chest x-ray if positive
- TB Questionnaire required in lieu of annual TB test renewal
- Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella: 2 MMR vaccines or positive titer; boosters if low titer
- Hepatitis B: Titer or 3-vaccine series (declination acceptable)
- Varicella: 2 vaccines or positive titer; medical exemption requires documentation
- Seasonal Flu vaccine or declination during flu season (10/1 - 3/31); decliners must wear mask
- Drug Testing: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 3 months of start (no pending tests allowed)
- COVID-19: Not required but strongly recommended; proof of vaccination can be collected
Additional Requirements
- References: Two professional references required; at least one from a manager/director or formal leadership
- Employment Application: Required for all candidates, including education verification for nursing candidates
- Skills Checklist: Required prior to start
- Orientation & Compliance:
- Annual review and acknowledgment of dress code, hand hygiene, ethics, and compliance policies
- Fraud, Waste, and Abuse training certificate required prior to start and updated annually
- Orientation Safety Manual acknowledgment required annually
This position offers a structured schedule with no call responsibilities and requires a solid background in medical-surgical nursing with telemetry skills. Candidates should be prepared to meet comprehensive licensure, certification, background, and health requirements specific to Ohio and the facility's standards.
