Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - Telemetry

Location: Stockbridge, Georgia
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 14 weeks


Experience Requirements

  • Minimum 1 year of specialty experience required
  • Prior travel experience required (1st time travelers not accepted)

Patient Population

  • Adults to Geriatrics

Certifications Required

  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)

Clinical Skills & Work Setting

  • Overflow IMCU (Intermediate Care Unit)
  • Arrhythmia management including cardioversion
  • Cardiac conditions: CHF, chest pain, renal, pulmonary (COPD, pulmonary edema), PE, DVT
  • Cardiac arrhythmias: stable A-Fib, SVT, bradycardia
  • Surgical patients: cholecystectomy, appendectomy, chest tubes, biliary drains
  • Occasional vascular patients, post cardiac cath, TR bands
  • Experience with cardiac drips and hemodynamic monitoring post PCI required
  • Basic arrhythmia knowledge and cardiac drip medications (amiodarone, cardizem, dobutamine, dopamine, nitroglycerin, milrinone, heparin, argatroban, aggrastat, bumex, lasix)
  • Occasional ortho or CVA patient overflow (transferred ASAP to appropriate unit)

Unit Details

  • Patient ratio: 1:5-6
  • Bed count: 32
  • Unit systems: Epic (preferred), Pyxis, SBAR
  • Scrub color: Navy Blue

Scheduling & Work Conditions

  • Return to Office (RTO): Maximum 7 days
  • Weekends: Every other weekend
  • Floating: Yes, within facility and scope of practice as needed
  • Call: Rare, 2-hour response time; travelers typically do not manage Precedex
  • Holidays: Required to work major holidays if they fall during assignment (Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving/Black Friday, Christmas Eve/Day, New Year’s Eve/Day)

Compliance & Orientation

  • Full compliance required to start on time; delays result in 2-week pushback due to bi-weekly orientation schedule
  • Clinical screening required to determine fit before final manager approval
  • Number of non-billable orientation hours depends on contract length (e.g., 14 weeks = 14 hours)

Required Documentation & Health Requirements

  • Background check (within 30 days of start) including education verification
  • State license verification (Georgia) within 30 days of start
  • Annual NURSYS verification within 30 days of start
  • Physical exam within 12 months of start
  • Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 12 months; TB questionnaire required annually
  • Immunizations:
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella (2 MMR vaccines or positive titer)
    • Varicella (2 vaccines or positive titer)
    • Hepatitis B series or signed declination
    • Flu vaccine or declination (strongly encouraged during flu season)
  • Drug testing: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 30 days of start; cannot start with results pending
  • Skills checklist within 12 months, updated annually
  • References: 2 clinical references required

Competency Exams

  • Medication/Pharmacology competency exam required
  • Color blind testing required
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required (3 attempts allowed; failure results in cancellation)
  • General competency exam required

Additional Notes

  • Locals accepted at same rate
  • Call is rare and limited to core staff
  • Travelers typically do not manage certain high-risk medications (e.g., Precedex)

This position is ideal for experienced telemetry RNs with prior travel experience who are comfortable managing complex cardiac patients in a fast-paced IMCU setting.
