Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (CVICU)

Location: Greensboro, North Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Details

  • Shift: Nights, 7:00 PM - 7:30 AM, 3x12 hour shifts
  • Schedule: Every other week (EOW) with 6 weekends (both Saturday and Sunday) required during the 13-week contract
  • Float: Required to float between all campuses within the health system
  • Holidays: As needed
  • Specialty: Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU)

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years of specialty experience required (higher value confirmed)
  • First-time travelers are accepted (prior travel experience not required)

Certifications Required

  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
  • Pass/Fail EKG/Dysrhythmia Exam (must pass with 82% or higher, 2 attempts allowed)
  • Other certifications may be required depending on unit (e.g., PALS, NRP, NIH Stroke Certification) – verify with recruiter or facility

Clinical Skills & Preferred Experience

  • SICU experience preferred
  • Interpretation and management of dysrhythmias and multi-system organ failure
  • Care of post-cardiac surgery patients (both directly from OR and not)
  • Pre/post cardiac catheterization intervention care
  • Pulmonary artery line (Swan-Ganz) monitoring
  • ECMO, Intra-Aortic Balloon Pump (IABP), Sheath Removal, Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation/Replacement (TAVI/TAVR) preferred
  • IV insulin protocols
  • Chronic and acute renal failure management preferred
  • Continuous venovenous hemofiltration/hemofiltration (CVVHA/CRRT) required
  • Arterial line management, blood product administration, central line and PICC line care and management, IV starts
  • Continuous IV sedation, titration of cardiac and vasoactive drips
  • Management of BiPAP and CPAP
  • Assistance with chest tube insertion and removal
  • Care of ventilated patients, high flow nasal cannula (HFNC), interpretation of arterial blood gases (ABGs), suctioning (ETT, NT), ventilator management

Patient Population

  • Medical Surgical Cardiac ICU patients including:
    • Myocardial infarction (MI)
    • Congestive heart failure (CHF)
    • Cardiac surgeries and post cardiac catheterization
    • LVAD, Impella, IABP, Arctic Sun
    • Renal failure requiring CRRT
    • Respiratory failure, sepsis
    • Open heart surgical patients, abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) repair, vascular surgeries
    • ECMO patients

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

  • Government-issued photo ID (Driver’s License/State ID)
  • Social Security Card
  • Background check within 60 days covering all locations lived/worked/schooled in past 7 years
  • Foreign equivalency education evaluation if education obtained outside the U.S.
  • Transcript/Diploma verification as applicable
  • Fingerprinting (NC SBI Fingerprint Results) required for certain positions (Home Health and Long-Term Care only)
  • Education verification (Associate’s degree in nursing or higher required for RN)
  • State nursing license primary source verification within 30 days of start
  • NURSYS verification within 60 days of start
  • Health documents including:
    • Physical exam (if applicable)
    • Fit mask test (annual)
    • Immunizations: Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap, Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella, Flu seasonal vaccination or approved exemption
    • Negative 10-panel drug screen within 40 days of start
    • TB testing and questionnaire
  • Employment history verification for last 5-7 years
  • References: 2 supervisory references required for clinical positions (one within 12 months, one within 24 months)
  • Skills checklist updated annually

Additional Notes

  • Zero-tolerance policy for tardiness and unexcused absences
  • Candidates must complete a mandatory questionnaire prior to offer
  • Candidates must review and sign facility-specific policies including floating policy and contractor equipment acknowledgment
  • Badge photo must meet strict facility requirements (no selfies, solid color background, business casual or uniform attire)
  • EPIC test and other competency exams may be required depending on specialty/unit
