Job Opportunity: Pediatric OR Registered Nurse
Location: Washington, District of Columbia
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Requirements
License:
- DC nursing license is required.
- Pending license applications accepted for submission only; license must be issued prior to start date.
- No background or license issues allowed; no exemptions accepted.
Experience:
- Minimum 2+ years of Pediatric nursing experience OR equivalent pediatric-related experience.
- No prior travel experience explicitly required.
Schedule:
- Four 10-hour shifts, Monday through Friday.
- Varying days off; no weekends or holidays.
- Rotations occur every few weeks, not within the same week.
Certifications & Competencies
- Required Certifications:
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) – AHA only, valid and not expiring within 30 days of start.
- BLS (Basic Life Support) – AHA only, valid and not expiring within 30 days of start.
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) – AHA only, valid and not expiring within 30 days of start.
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) – AHA/AAP only, valid and not expiring within 30 days of start.
- Chemotherapy certification (based on unit/specialty).
- State nursing license verification and NURSYS verification.
- Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam.
- Competency Exam and Color Blind Testing (can be completed online or as part of physical).
- Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement.
- Pass/Fail Medication Calculation Exam at orientation (must score 84% or higher, 2 attempts allowed).
Background & Documentation
- Government-issued photo ID required (Driver’s License or State ID).
- Background check within 30 days of start covering all locations lived/worked/schooled in past 7 years, including:
- SSN Trace, Counties, States, Nationwide, National Sex Offender, FACIS Level 3, Education Verification, International Searches if applicable.
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required.
- Transcript/Diploma accepted if education verification is pending.
- Employment application, skills checklist, and 2 professional references dated within past 2 years required.
Health & Immunization Requirements
- Physical exam within 30 days of start, including latex allergy information.
- Fit test for N95 mask (1860 or 1870+) or PAPRs within 1 year of start, updated annually.
- Immunizations and/or titers required with lab values and reference ranges for:
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) – 2 vaccines or positive quantitative titer.
- Varicella – 2 vaccines or positive quantitative titer.
- Hepatitis B series and quantitative surface antibody titer.
- Tdap vaccine within 10 years (TD and DTap not accepted).
- Negative TB test (PPD, QGold, or TSPOT) within 60 days of start or chest x-ray if previously positive. New converters require additional documentation.
- Drug screen (10 panel including marijuana) within 30 days of start.
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season.
- COVID-19 vaccine or declination required for tracking purposes.
- Latex questionnaire if latex allergy info not included on physical exam.
Facility-Specific Requirements
- Current photo for badge (within 3 years, full face, plain background, no hats/sunglasses, no filters or alterations).
- Completion of facility-specific Cornerstone Modules prior to start, including COVID-19 vaccine training modules.
- Medication Study Guide provided prior to start for orientation test preparation.
- Emergency contact information must be completed.
- Additional facility-specific modules and forms may be required depending on exemption requests or new TB converters.
