Job Opportunity: NICU Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: Edmonds, Washington
Specialty: Registered Nurse - NICU
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Summary

  • Position is for a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) Registered Nurse at a Level II NICU unit.
  • Care for infants 32 weeks gestation or greater, including normal newborns.
  • Attend vaginal and cesarean deliveries, including high-risk deliveries.
  • Provide care involving CPAP/BiPAP, feeding tubes, syringe pumps.
  • Float to other units as needed.
  • NICU nurses are not expected to care for mother-baby couplets unless already competent.

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years of NICU nursing experience required.
  • Prior travel experience is not explicitly required.

Licensure & Certifications

  • Active nursing license valid in Washington (compact license accepted).
  • Required Certifications:
    • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP)
    • Basic Life Support (BLS)
    • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
    • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
    • Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM) certification (AWHONN or NCC-EFM acceptable)
    • Chemotherapy certification if applicable
  • Other certifications may be required based on unit and clinical track.

Unit Information

  • Level II NICU admissions and normal newborn care.
  • Attend all deliveries including high-risk.
  • Use of respiratory support devices and feeding equipment.

Floating Policy

  • Must acknowledge and comply with float policy; may be required to float to other Providence facilities within reasonable distance.

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

  • Background check within 45 days of start, covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years.
  • Education verification required for nursing degree.
  • Drug screening: 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start (no instant tests).
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start, signed by MD, NP, PA, or DO.
  • Immunizations and health documents required:
    • TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap within 10 years (declination accepted)
    • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titer
    • Hepatitis B vaccination or signed declination
    • Varicella vaccination or positive titer
    • Flu vaccine during flu season or declination
    • COVID vaccine or declination
  • Respirator fit testing required annually for travel nurses.

Training & Competency

  • Completion of Providence WorkRamp modules prior to start, including:
    • Core regulatory requirements
    • Specialty-specific NICU and L&D modules
    • Epic training modules (if applicable)
  • Medication and pharmacology competency exams as applicable.
  • Skills checklist updated annually.

References & Employment History

  • Minimum of 2 references covering 1 year of employment within the last 3 years in a comparable specialty/setting.
  • Employment application covering at least last 5 years required.

Additional Notes

  • Previous permanent employees of any Providence affiliated facility must have a minimum 3-month separation before qualifying for travel positions.
  • Active compact nursing license accepted for Washington.
  • Must be willing to float as needed.
