Job Opportunity: Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse
Location: New Brunswick, New Jersey
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Details
- Shift: 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM
- No call, no floating
- Level 3 unit with 19 beds
- 2 years of acute care experience required (highest required specialty experience)
- Prior travel experience: Not explicitly required
Required Certifications
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) – AHA only
- BLS (Basic Life Support) – AHA only
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) – AHA/AAP certified
- AWOHNN Intermediate, Advanced, or C-EFM (Electronic Fetal Monitoring) – required for Labor and Delivery; can obtain C-EFM prior to start if not already certified
- IV Certification (if previously worked in New Jersey)
- Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement
- State Nursing License (copy and primary source verification)
- NURSYS Verification (as applicable)
- NIH Stroke Certification (required for some units, verify if applicable)
Competency Exams & Testing
- Medication/Pharmacology Competency Exam (AYA standard)
- Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam (required for all RNs except L&D and OR; 2 attempts allowed)
- IV Therapy/Infusion Exam (required for all RNs except at this facility)
- IV Push Medications Competency Exam (not required for this facility)
- Pass/Fail Medication Exam prior to orientation (30 minutes, 1 attempt to pass)
- IV Certification Exam or Challenge Exam if no prior proof of IV Certification
Orientation & Training
- Mandatory hospital orientation required
- Completion of Cornerstone modules (~8 hours) prior to assignment clearance
- McKesson training (8-12 hours) during orientation
- IV Certification process includes successful IV stick sign-offs during orientation
Background & Compliance Requirements
- Criminal background check covering all locations lived/worked in last 7 years, including aliases and jurisdictions
- SAM, OIG, EPLS/GSA searches within 30 days of start
- Physical exam or fit-to-work statement (no annual update required)
- Drug screening: Negative 10-panel within 1 year of start; on-site drug screen at assignment start
- Immunizations and health documents required:
- Tdap vaccine
- Negative TB test (PPD, QGold, or Tspot within 3 months) or chest x-ray if indicated
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) – 2 vaccines or positive titer
- Hepatitis B (titer, series, or declination)
- Varicella – 2 vaccines or positive titer
- Hepatitis C – negative or non-reactive antibody test
- Seasonal Flu vaccination or approved exemption (deadline applies)
Documentation & History
- 3 professional references required (at least one supervisor-level)
- Employment application showing minimum 2 years acute care experience
- Work history verification required for at least 1 year prior to start date (NJ state mandate)
- Skills checklist required
- Facility-specific documents including photo for badge, orientation self-study packet, and COVID-19 booster attestation (if applicable)
Additional Notes
- Scrubs provided
- Return candidates must provide IV Certification proof or complete modules again
- Manager requests Return to Office (RTO) documentation at time of submission with no more than 7 days allowed
- Candidates may be cancelled if they fail required exams twice (e.g., medication, IV, dysrhythmia)
This position is ideal for experienced Labor and Delivery RNs with the required certifications and acute care background seeking a 13-week travel assignment in New Jersey.
