Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - Antepartum (Travel/Contract)

Location: Seattle, Washington


Job Summary

Seeking a Registered Nurse for a travel/contract position specializing in Antepartum care. This role involves floating to the Postpartum unit and providing care for high-risk antepartum patients from 6 to 41 weeks gestation.


Contract Length

  • 13 weeks

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years of nursing experience required
  • Candidates with less than 2 years or no experience with C-sections require manager approval
  • Intermediate AWHONN certification required for screening

Prior Travel Experience

  • First-time travelers are welcome; prior travel experience is not required

Unit & Patient Population

  • Float required to Postpartum unit
  • Care for high-risk antepartum patients including:
    • Preterm labor (PTL)
    • Placenta previa
    • Preeclampsia
    • Diabetes
    • Hypertension
    • Premature rupture of membranes (PROM)
    • Twins
    • Substance use disorder in pregnancy
  • Care for fetal demise or loss (antepartum and postpartum)
  • Postpartum mothers with babies in NICU (no newborn care on this unit)

Clinical Skills & Responsibilities

  • Assist with sterile speculum exams (effacement, dilation, station, presentation)
  • Support amniocentesis or sterile speculum exams at bedside
  • Manage PCA pumps, PICC/central lines, syringe pumps
  • Administer medications including heparin, insulin drips, magnesium sulfate
  • Circulate for C-sections in Labor and Delivery

Certifications Required

  • AWHONN Advanced (Intermediate level)
  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) preferred but not required

Scrub Requirements

  • Any color scrubs allowed; scrubs provided when floated to Labor & Delivery units

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start
  • Background check within 45 days of start, covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years
  • Drug screening (10 panel) within 90 days of start
  • Immunizations and health documents including:
    • TDAP (within 10 years) or declination
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months
    • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titer
    • Hepatitis B vaccination or declination
    • Varicella vaccination or positive titer
    • Flu vaccine or declination during flu season
    • COVID vaccine or declination
  • Respirator clearance (RespSafety) required annually for travel candidates
  • References: Minimum 2 supervisor references covering 1 year of employment in a comparable specialty/setting within last 3 years

Licensing & State Specific Requirements

  • Active nursing license with compact license accepted for Washington
  • NURSYS verification required for all RNs
  • Washington State Patrol background search required within 90 days of start
  • WA Multi-State Licensed Nurses Demographic Attestation required for out-of-state compact license holders

Training & Competency Requirements

  • Medication/Pharmacology competency exam as applicable
  • Annual regulatory and specialty-specific WorkRamp modules required
  • Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM) certification or Fetal Heart Rate Monitoring Assessment exam required for Labor & Delivery RNs
  • Epic training modules may be required depending on region and facility

Additional Notes

  • Float policy acknowledgement required; may be required to float to other Providence facilities within reasonable distance
  • No newborn care on this unit; focus is on antepartum and postpartum mothers with babies in NICU
  • First-time travelers are accepted with appropriate screening and approvals
