Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (NICU) - Akron, Ohio
Position Details
- Specialty: Registered Nurse (NICU)
- Location: Akron, Ohio
- Employment Type: Travel/Contract
- Contract Length: 12 weeks (interpreted from 12)
- Shift: 3x12 hour days
- Facility Type: Magnet facility
- Float Requirement: Heavy float to PICU and may be asked to float to Summa location in addition to Akron main campus. Float is required.
Required Qualifications
- License: Ohio or Compact RN license in hand required
- Education: BSN required
- Certifications:
- BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA only (RQI acceptable)
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) - AAP/AHA only
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) preferred for PICU float
- STABLE certification preferred (can be completed onsite)
- Experience:
- Pediatric experience required
- Stable certification preferred
- Additional Certifications Preferred:
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) for certain units
- CNOR preferred for OR
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) preferred for PICU & ER
- PCAR (Pediatric Care After Resuscitation) preferred for PICU
Experience Requirements
- Minimum 2 years of clinical practice in an acute care setting in a similar area to the pending assignment (based on employment application requirements).
- Pediatric experience required.
- No explicit prior travel experience required.
Compliance and Documentation Requirements
- Valid government-issued photo ID required.
- 7-year criminal background check including SSN trace, counties lived/worked, statewide, national criminal, nationwide sex offender, FACIS Level 3, OFAC, education verification, and international checks if applicable.
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required and must be updated annually or after breaks in service over 30 days.
- Ohio BCI and FBI fingerprint results required within 1 month of start; must be updated annually.
- Education verification or diploma/transcript required.
- State license primary source verification required.
- NURSYS verification required.
- Unit-specific competency exams and medication/pharmacology competency exam required; must be updated annually.
- Orientation safety manual acknowledgement required annually.
- Physical exam within 12 months of start, updated annually.
- Immunizations and titers required:
- Tdap within 10 years
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella (positive titer or 2 vaccinations)
- Hepatitis B (titer, vaccine series proof, or signed declination)
- Varicella (positive titer or 2 vaccinations)
- Standard 10-panel drug screen within 30 days of start; new screen required after breaks in service over 30 days.
- Flu vaccine or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (11/15 - 5/31).
- Two positive professional references required, including at least one from the most recent employer.
- Application must include 3 years prior work history with at least 2 years clinical practice in acute care.
Additional Facility Requirements
- Candidate must sign computer security agreement, HIPAA/confidentiality statement, and HIPAA privacy training.
- Must complete facility-specific float policy form for NICU, PICU, Pediatric float, Pediatric Stepdown, TCU, ICU & BICU.
- Flu medical exemption form required if applicable, signed by appropriate healthcare provider.
- Non-employee personal information form must be completed within 72 hours of signed contract to initiate access.
This position is ideal for experienced pediatric RNs with NICU skills who are comfortable floating to PICU and other pediatric units in a Magnet hospital setting.
