Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - Home Health (Travel/Contract)

Location: South Portland, Maine
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

  • Provide, coordinate, and direct home nursing care according to physician orders and agency policies.
  • Supervise and evaluate Home Health Aides and Licensed Practical Nurses/Licensed Vocational Nurses.
  • Conduct home visits with an average of 5-8 patients per day.
  • Types of cases include Start of Care, Wound Care, Follow-up Visits, etc.
  • Must have reliable transportation, a current driver's license, and agency-required liability insurance.
  • Willingness to travel up to 75 miles from the home clinic; average weekly travel is 250-350 miles.
  • Charting proficiency required in HomeCare HomeBase (HCHB) and OASIS (for RNs).
  • Schedule: Monday to Friday, 8 AM to 5 PM. No weekend rotation or on-call required.
  • Dress code: Scrubs.

Requirements

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse (Home Health)
  • Experience: Minimum 1 full year of recent Adult Home Health or Hospice experience (whichever is higher). First-time travelers are not accepted; recent specialty experience is mandatory.
  • Certifications: Current CPR and BLS certification required.
  • Licensing: Must have an active nursing license in hand; pending licenses are not accepted.
  • Travel Experience: Prior travel experience is not explicitly required.
  • Technology: Must be proficient with HomeCare HomeBase (HCHB) and OASIS documentation systems, with recent usage within the last 6 months or willingness to retrain.

Additional Information

  • Productivity expectations: 30 points per week (points assigned based on visits and activities).
  • If productivity is not met, additional travel to other towns within the territory may be required.
  • Local candidates are accepted at the same rate.
  • Some positions may have a Baylor Shift schedule (4x10s, Friday-Monday), but most are standard 5x8s, Monday-Friday.
  • On-call and weekend requirements vary by location and profession; discuss during interview.

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

  • Valid Driver’s License and Personal/Auto Insurance required.
  • Background checks including 7-year history, sex offender search, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG, and fingerprinting as applicable.
  • Education verification and work history verification (at least 2 most recent employers or last 7 years).
  • Health documents including physical exam (within 12 months), negative TB test or chest X-ray, immunizations (MMR, Hepatitis B, Varicella), drug testing, flu vaccination or declination, and COVID vaccination or declination.
  • Completion of various compliance documents and training including HIPAA, confidentiality, code of conduct, compliance basics, and home health/hospice-specific policies.
  • OASIS E-Course required if not used within the last 6 months.
  • State-specific requirements and clearances as applicable.
