Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (Medical Surgical)
Location: Seneca, South Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift Details
- Night shift: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM - 7:30 AM)
- Weekend coverage every other weekend
- Floating required to other units within the health system as needed (only to units where qualified and competent)
Unit & Patient Population
- General Medical Surgical unit
- Patient population primarily elderly with conditions including respiratory diseases, infections, dementia, and neurological issues
- Team environment with a charge RN on every shift
Experience Requirements
- Minimum 2 years of Registered Nurse experience required
- At least 1 year of experience with EPIC documentation system required
- Unit will consider first-time travelers based on experience
- Prior travel experience is NOT explicitly required
Certifications & Licenses Required
- Current South Carolina RN license
- BLS certification (AHA or ARC, RQI acceptable)
- Additional certifications may be required depending on unit (check unit-specific requirements):
- ACLS
- PALS
- NRP (Advanced AHA only)
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course)
- EFM (Electronic Fetal Monitoring)
- CPI or MAB (Crisis Prevention or Management of Assaultive Behavior)
- NIH Stroke Certification
- Other specialty or unit-specific certifications as applicable
Documentation & Compliance Requirements
- Proof of identity (Driver’s License/State ID) required immediately upon signing
- Background check: 7-year history within 12 months of start, including multiple state and county searches
- E-Verify or attestation required
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start and every 30 days thereafter
- Education verification (primary source) required within 30 days of start
- State license verification and NURSYS verification required within 30 days of start
- Physical exam within 1 year of start, attesting ability to meet physical demands
- Drug screening within 1 year of start, updated annually (5-panel minimum)
- Immunizations and health documents required:
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 90 days of start
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (if working in high-risk areas)
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella (positive titer or 2 vaccines)
- Hepatitis B vaccination series, positive titer, or signed declination
- Varicella (chickenpox) immunity documentation
- Seasonal flu vaccine or approved exemption (not required for 100% remote)
- Respirator fit test completed onsite during orientation
Training & Testing
- Online Cornerstone modules (~12 hours) must be completed within 72 hours of assignment
- Pass/fail medication and arrhythmia testing required prior to start (two attempts allowed, 84% passing score)
- Annual competency exams and core training (Parts I, II, III) required
- Medication test/pharmacology competency exam required annually
- Color blindness testing required for certain units (ED, Pediatric ER)
- Badge photo required prior to start (passport style, specific background and lighting requirements)
Additional Notes
- Floating policy must be signed and adhered to (floating only to qualified units)
- Unit has a healthy work environment with good teamwork
- Candidates with less than 1 year of travel experience may be reviewed for suitability
- Orientation includes 16 hours of non-billable time onsite separate from online modules
This position offers an opportunity to work in a supportive medical surgical environment with a diverse elderly patient population, requiring solid clinical experience and flexibility to float within the health system.
