Job Opportunity: Operating Room Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: Washington, District of Columbia
Contract Length: 13 weeks (approximately 3 months)

Job Description

  • Shift: Evening
  • Start Dates: March 2 and March 16
  • License Requirements:
    • Pending DC nursing license accepted at time of submission (proof required)
    • Must have DC license in hand prior to start date
  • Experience Required: Minimum 2 years of OR nursing experience
  • Travel Experience: Prior travel experience not explicitly required; however, unit accepts first-time travelers with 2 years experience
  • Float Requirement: Must float within units of equivalent or lower acuity
  • On-Call Requirements:
    • 6 calls per 6-week schedule
    • 1 weekend shift and/or 1 holiday shift per 6-week schedule
  • Required Certifications:
    • BCLS (Basic Cardiac Life Support)
  • Preferred Certifications:
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
  • Skills Required:
    • General OR procedures
    • Bariatrics
    • ENT (Ear, Nose, Throat)
    • Neurology
    • Orthopedic
    • Urology lines
  • Special Procedures:
    1. Total joint replacements
    2. Spine surgeries
    3. Craniotomy
    4. Free flaps
    5. Cyto reduction
    6. Bariatric surgeries
    7. ENT/OMF (Oral and Maxillofacial)
  • Scrub Color: Ceil blue (not provided)
  • Vaccination Requirement: Flu vaccine mandatory for all employees

Required Documentation & Compliance

  • Background Checks:
    • Criminal background check within 90 days, including all locations lived/worked/schooled in past 7 years
    • Federal, state, and county searches as applicable
    • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks prior to start and monthly thereafter
  • Licenses & Certifications:
    • State nursing license verification required prior to start
    • BLS required (AHA or ARC)
    • ACLS preferred
    • Other certifications as required by unit (e.g., PALS, NRP, TNCC, EFM) depending on assignment
  • Competency Exams:
    • Medication/Pharmacology competency exam (must score 80% or higher) within 3 years of start
    • Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required for certain specialty units (must meet specific scoring criteria)
  • Health Requirements:
    • Annual physical exam confirming ability to work without accommodations and free from communicable disease
    • Negative TB test or chest x-ray within required timeframes
    • Immunizations or titers for Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B
    • Drug screen within 90 days of start (excluding marijuana)
    • Flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season
    • N95 fit test within 9 months of start and updated annually (client may complete onsite if needed)
  • Other:
    • I9/E-Verify attestation required
    • Photo for badge with specific requirements (clear, centered, no glare, solid background)
    • Completion of facility-specific modules (SITELS) prior to start date

Additional Notes

  • Two positive supervisory references required, supporting at least 2 years of experience within the last 3 years
  • Complete 7 years of work history with no gaps, including education and license information
  • Must have completed at least one travel assignment or one month of per diem assignment for travel contracts
  • Facility requires all employees to have the flu vaccine; exemptions are rare and strictly reviewed

This position is ideal for an experienced OR RN with at least 2 years of specialty experience, comfortable with floating and on-call duties, and able to meet comprehensive credentialing and health requirements.
