Job Description

  • Position: Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) with PICU/NICU experience
  • Experience Required: Minimum 1 year in specialty (PICU/NICU experience required)
  • Prior Travel Experience: Not explicitly required (1st timers OK)
  • Floating: No floating between units
  • On-call: Not required
  • Weekend Requirement: Generally every other weekend, variable
  • Block Schedules: Yes

Required Qualifications

Licensure

  • Must hold a current, valid Respiratory Therapist license for Texas

Certifications

  • BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA or Canadian Heart & Stroke Foundation approved
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA or Canadian Heart & Stroke Foundation approved
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) - AHA or Canadian Heart & Stroke Foundation approved
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) - Current certification by AAP, AHA, or Canadian Paediatric Society
  • Other certifications may be required based on clinical track (e.g., Chemotherapy, EFM) but not mandatory unless specified

Background and Compliance

  • Background check within 45 days of start, covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years
  • Drug screening: 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start (no instant tests)
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start, signed by MD, NP, PA, or DO
  • Immunizations and health documents required:
    • TDAP (within 10 years or declination accepted)
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months
    • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titer
    • Hepatitis B vaccination or signed declination
    • Varicella vaccination or positive titer
    • Seasonal Flu vaccine or declination (required during flu season)
    • COVID vaccine or declination
  • Respirator clearance (RespSafety) required annually for travel candidates

References and Employment History

  • Minimum 2 references covering 1 year of employment within last 3 years in a comparable specialty/setting
  • Employment application covering at least last 5 years (7 years for APN/Subcontractors) with month/year format

Scheduling and Work Environment

  • Weekends: Generally every other weekend, variable
  • No on-call duties
  • No floating between units
  • Scrub color for RRTs: Galaxy Blue/Royal Blue
  • Parking: Free in any unrestricted space; bike racks available

Additional Requirements

  • Completion of Providence-specific WorkRamp training modules prior to start (assigned by CS)
  • Badge photo required (passport style with neutral background)
  • Compliance with Providence’s floating policy acknowledgment (may be required to float to nearby Providence facilities)
