Travel/Contract Registered Nurse (NICU)
Location: Lafayette, Louisiana
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
- Position is for a Registered Nurse specializing in NICU.
- Assignment includes potential emergency team duties, requiring availability to stay onsite or be part of relief teams during emergency events.
- Floating to mother-baby and pediatrics units may be required.
- Weekend coverage every other weekend.
- Average daily census: 30 patients.
- Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:3.
- Epic experience required.
- Post-operative experience required.
- Unit will not accept first-time travelers.
Required Experience
- Minimum 2 years of specialty experience in NICU.
- Prior travel experience required (unit will not accept first-time travelers).
Required Certifications & Licenses
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in Louisiana or Compact License.
- BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA only, RQI accepted.
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) - AHA only, RQI accepted.
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA only, RQI accepted.
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) - AHA only, RQI accepted.
- CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) certification may be required depending on unit; confirm with program management.
- Other certifications may be required based on unit description; confirm prior to start.
Additional Requirements
- Current/valid Driver’s License or government photo ID (color copy required).
- Background checks including 7-year criminal background, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG, sex offender search, and education verification as applicable.
- Physical exam within 12 months indicating good health.
- Fit mask testing (N95) within one year of start; onsite fit testing available if needed.
- Immunizations and health screenings required:
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months.
- Tdap vaccination (required for NICU).
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella immunity verification.
- Hepatitis B immunity or vaccination series.
- Varicella immunity or vaccination series.
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption during flu season.
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 60 days of start.
- Employment application and skills checklist updated annually.
- Photo for badge (passport-style, recent, color).
Important Notes
- Candidates must be comfortable with emergency event assignments as directed by unit management.
- This position is not suitable for first-time travel nurses.
- Certification renewals must be completed prior to start if expiring within 30 days.
- Compliance with all facility-specific and health documentation requirements is mandatory.
