Job Opportunity: Operating Room Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: Carmel, Indiana
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Details

  • Shift: Friday - Sunday or Saturday - Monday night
  • Orientation: 2 weeks day shift orientation before transitioning to nights
  • Experience Required: Minimum 2 years as an OR RN (higher value confirmed)
  • Prior Travel Experience: Not required (1st timer OK)
  • Skills Required: Circulate in OR environment
  • Charting System: Cerner required
  • Surgical Services: General Surgery, Bariatrics, GYN, Urology, ENT, Orthopedics, Plastics, Spine, Robotics, Thoracic, Peripheral Vascular, Pediatric surgeries
  • Note: Periop/OR RNs are exempt from Indiana RN restrictions effective 11/30/2024

Required Qualifications

  • License: Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license for Indiana or applicable state
  • Certifications:
    • BCLS (Basic Cardiac Life Support) required
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA or RQI acceptable
    • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) - AHA or RQI acceptable
    • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) - AHA only
    • CHEMO (Chemotherapy certification) as applicable
    • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) as applicable
    • EFM (Electronic Fetal Monitoring) as applicable
  • Competencies:
    • Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam
    • Unit Competency Exam
    • Color Blind Testing (Ishihara exam or equivalent, 100% minimum score)

Health & Compliance Requirements

  • Physical exam within 12 months of start date
  • Fit mask test within 12 months (N95 or approved respirators)
  • Immunizations and titers:
    • Rubeola (Measles) - positive titer or 2 vaccines required
    • Mumps - positive titer or 2 vaccines required
    • Rubella - positive titer or 2 vaccines required
    • Varicella - positive titer or 2 vaccines required (no declinations accepted)
    • Hepatitis B series, titer, or signed declination required
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap preferred but not required
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
  • Drug screening: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 12 months
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required for flu season (9/30 - 3/31)
  • TB Questionnaire updated annually

Background & Documentation

  • Valid Driver’s License or Passport (clear copy)
  • Background checks including:
    • 7-year history SSN trace, county, statewide, national sex offender, FACIS Level III
    • EPLS/GSA/SAM check within 30 days of start
    • HHS/OIG check within 30 days of start
  • Education verification and official transcript/diploma
  • Employment application covering 7 years with explanations for gaps over 30 days
  • Minimum 2 professional references from recent employment with appropriate supervisory titles
  • Skills checklist within 12 months and annually updated
  • Facility-specific compliance and orientation documents required prior to start

Additional Notes

  • Community hospital with 16 ORs
  • Hospital offers a wide range of surgical specialties including robotics and pediatric surgeries
  • Indiana RN restrictions do not apply to Periop/OR RNs for contracts starting before or continuing past 11/30/2024

This position is ideal for an experienced OR RN looking for a travel contract with a reputable healthcare system in Indiana. Orientation and certifications are critical to success in this role.
