Job Opportunity: Pediatric Infusion Registered Nurse
Location: New Brunswick, New Jersey
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Patient Ratios: 1:3
- Required Experience: Minimum 2 years in Hematology/Oncology (inpatient or outpatient accepted)
- First-time travelers accepted
- Schedule: Every other weekend and holiday shifts
- Floating: Will float to Pediatrics, Adolescent, PICU Stepdown units
- No block scheduling
- Local candidates accepted
- Patient Population: Childhood cancers and sickle cell patients
- Required Skills:
- EPIC electronic health record system
- Pediatric Early Warning Scores (PEWs)
- Phlebotomy including A-lines, Central lines, PICCs
- Administering and monitoring chemotherapy
- Wound care
- Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT) experience preferred
Required Qualifications
Licensure
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license for New Jersey
Certifications
- APHON (Association of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Nurses) Chemotherapy Certification (required for pediatric chemo)
- BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA accepted, including RQI and instructor cards
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) - Required for Pediatric ER, Pediatric Acute Care, ED, Outpatient Surgery, PACU, PICU, and Pediatrics
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - Required for PICU, Radiation Oncology RN, Pediatric ER, Pediatric Acute Care
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) - Not required for this role
- Chemotherapy Certification: Pediatric chemo cert must be issued by APHON; adult chemo certs not accepted for pediatric roles
- Other certifications as applicable based on floating units
Competencies and Testing
- Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (required for all RNs)
- Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam (required for applicable units including ED, Telemetry, PCU, ICU, etc.)
- Pass/Fail Testing (EKG/Medication) with remediation policy
- Color Blind Testing (if job tasks require color discrimination)
Experience
- Minimum 2 years Hematology/Oncology experience (highest required years of experience)
- Prior travel experience: Not required (first-timers accepted)
Schedule & Work Environment
- Every other weekend and holiday shifts required
- Floating to Pediatrics, Adolescent, PICU Stepdown units
- No block scheduling
Health & Safety Requirements
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 3 months of start
- Physical exam within 12 months, cleared to perform essential job functions and free of communicable disease
- Drug screening within 30 days of start (10-panel urine drug screen)
- Seasonal influenza vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required annually
- Fit test and respiratory medical clearance required prior to start
- Latex allergy screening questionnaire if applicable
- Required immunizations or proof of immunity:
- Measles (Rubeola)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Varicella
- Hepatitis B (titer required or vaccine compliance)
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap within 10 years
Background & Documentation
- Criminal background check within 30 days of start
- Employment application or resume with 7 years of work history
- Work history verification for at least 1 year prior to start (New Jersey state requirement)
- Two professional references within last 2 years, including at least one managerial reference
- Completion of facility-specific floating policy acknowledgment
- Annual education sign-off and competency attestations
Additional Notes
- Candidates must be able to provide government-issued photo ID and driver’s license within 48 hours of signing
- Candidates must complete required online and facility-specific orientation and training modules prior to start
- Management of Assaultive Behavior (MAB) certification required if floating to ER, Pediatric ER, or Behavioral Health units (training can be completed post-hire with proof of registration)
