Job Opportunity: Medical Surgical Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: Lafayette, Louisiana
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Position in a Medical/Surgical unit specializing in post-operative GI and wound care.
- Acute care experience required.
- Must have worked full-time on a post-op unit.
- Experience with patient diagnoses including pancreatitis, GI bleeds, bowel obstructions/perforations, wound and post-op infections, mass removal, esophageal perforation, gunshot wounds, motor vehicle collisions, diverticulitis.
- Experience with special procedures such as pancreatectomy, esophagectomy, Whipple, spleenectomy, adrenalectomy, cystectomy, colectomy, thyroidectomy, mastectomy, hepatic resection, Nissen, bariatric surgery, TURP, gastrectomy, parathyroidectomy, exploratory laparotomy.
- Familiarity with equipment including PEG, PEJ, PCA, peritoneal drains, JP drains, hemo vac, wound vac, nephrostomy tubes, ileostomy, colostomy, urostomy.
- Must be comfortable with emergency team assignments during events requiring extended facility presence or relief team participation.
Required Qualifications
- Specialty: Registered Nurse (Medical Surgical)
- Experience: Minimum 2 years in specialty (post-op and med/surg experience required)
- Travel Experience: Must have completed at least one prior travel contract
- Licensure: Active Louisiana RN license or Compact RN license required upon submission
- Certifications:
- BLS (AHA only, RQI accepted)
- ACLS (AHA only, RQI accepted)
- Additional certifications may be required depending on unit (verify with program management)
Required Documents & Compliance
- Current/valid Driver’s License or government photo ID (color copy)
- 7-year criminal background check within 90 days of start, updated annually
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start, updated monthly
- Education verification of highest level completed
- Sex offender search within 30 days of start, updated monthly
- Physical exam within 12 months indicating good health
- Fit mask testing (N95) within one year of start; onsite fit testing available if needed
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 60 days of start
- Immunizations and titers:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (as applicable)
- TB test (PPD, Qgold, or Tspot) within 12 months, updated annually
- Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella immunity verification
- Hepatitis B immunity or vaccination series
- Varicella immunity or vaccination series
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption during flu season (Oct-Apr)
- Skills checklist updated annually
- Employment application/resume with 7 years employment history and gap explanations
Additional Notes
- Candidates should be prepared to participate in emergency response teams as assigned by unit management.
- Post-op experience is mandatory; only candidates with relevant post-op GI and wound care experience will be considered.
- This is a travel/contract position with a 13-week assignment starting ASAP.
