Job Opportunity: Neuro ICU Registered Nurse

Location: York, Pennsylvania
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

  • Work in a 10-bed Neurosurgical Intensive Care Unit (NSICU) caring for critically ill stroke patients (ischemic and hemorrhagic), non-traumatic neurosurgery, and neurology patients aged 18 and older.
  • Provide post-operative care for neurosurgery and neuro-endovascular surgery patients.
  • Responsibilities include care involving:
    • External Ventricular Drain (EVD)
    • Intracranial Pressure (ICP) monitoring
    • Angiogram post care
    • Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy (CRRT)
    • Carotid procedures and embolizations
    • IV and/or IA tPA administration
    • Mechanical thrombectomy
    • AVM and aneurysm repair
    • Carotid stenting procedures
    • Craniotomy care
    • Ventilator management
    • Hemodynamic monitoring
  • May care for COVID-19 patients.
  • Tobacco and fragrance-free facility.

Schedule

  • Night shifts: 3x12 hour shifts (18:45 - 07:15)
  • Flexibility to rotate day/night shifts is preferred.
  • Weekends every other week (EOW) and holidays as needed (expected to work 2 of 3 upcoming holidays).
  • One hardship shift depending on assignment timeframe.
  • May be asked to float to other ICUs if needed.
  • Return to Office (RTO) max 7 days; no RTO between Christmas and New Year's.

Required Qualifications

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse - Neuro ICU
  • Experience: Minimum 2 years Neuro ICU experience
  • Certifications:
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
    • BLS (Basic Life Support)
    • NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)
  • EPIC experience required
  • Valid RN license for Pennsylvania

Prior Travel Experience

  • No explicit requirement for prior travel experience mentioned.

Required Documentation & Compliance

  • Background checks including 7-year criminal background, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG, and Pennsylvania-specific PATCH search.
  • PA FBI fingerprinting required within 1 year of start; candidate may start with results pending but must be finalized within 45 days.
  • Pennsylvania Child Abuse Search required; may start with results pending but must be finalized within 45 days.
  • Education verification (highest level of education).
  • Professional references (2 within last 3 years).
  • Skills checklist and competency exams as applicable (including medication, dysrhythmia/EKG competency).
  • Physical exam within 90 days of start, signed by MD, DO, PA, or NPT.
  • Immunizations and health requirements:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years)
    • Negative TB test (QGold or TSpot) within 90 days (PPD not accepted)
    • Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella: Vaccines or positive titers required with boosters if titers negative/equivocal
    • Hepatitis B: Positive titer or full vaccine series (3 doses) plus declination form if applicable
    • Varicella: 2 vaccines or positive titer with boosters if titers negative/equivocal
    • Seasonal Flu vaccine or valid medical/religious exemption required during flu season
    • COVID-19 vaccine or valid exemption/declination
  • Drug testing: Negative 9-panel within 1 year (Aya requirement only, not facility).
  • Facility-specific documents including photo for badge, code of conduct, confidentiality agreement, and other onboarding paperwork.
  • Completion of WellSpan Health LMS modules and new hire orientation.

Additional Notes

  • Candidate will undergo a clinical pre-screen to determine fit before manager interview.
  • Must be flexible with shift assignments and floating as needed.
  • Facility expects professionalism including adherence to tobacco and fragrance-free policy.
