Job Opportunity: Infection Preventionalist (Travel)

Location: Springdale, Arkansas
Employment Type: Travel
Contract Length: 13 weeks (approximately 3 months)
Shift: Monday to Friday, 8 AM - 5 PM


Job Description

As an Infection Preventionalist, you will be responsible for a wide range of infection control duties, including but not limited to:

Daily Responsibilities

  • Manage COVID inpatient lists and trackers
  • Conduct rounds and phone calls related to isolation orders
  • Ensure proper isolation procedures and manage isolation orders
  • Address patient issues and respond to call lights
  • Review cultures and infection dashboards
  • Identify and report healthcare-associated infections (HAI)
  • Communicate with unit directors and leadership regarding infection control issues
  • Update various COVID and infection control trackers and reports
  • Monitor staff COVID positive cases and potential outbreaks
  • Investigate water intrusion and sign off on Infection Control Risk Assessments (ICRA)
  • Field calls from Department of Health regarding communicable diseases
  • Interfacility infection reporting and follow-up
  • Answer staff questions related to infection control
  • Perform daily nursing-related infection control tasks (e.g., Foley catheter orders, C. diff monitoring)

Weekly Responsibilities

  • Update COVID vaccine data and ventilator event tracking
  • Conduct environmental and EVS rounds
  • Perform central line and PIV dressing audits
  • Participate in Patient Safety Indicator (PSI) meetings and review HACs
  • Attend optional IP office hours for information sharing

Biweekly Responsibilities

  • Participate in orientation and skills lab sessions

Monthly Responsibilities

  • Benchmark surgical data into NHSN (including hysterectomies, knees, hips, cardiac, colon, open heart surgeries)
  • Enter denominator data and patient encounter statistics into NHSN
  • Attend various committee meetings (APIC, Patient Safety, Quality Council, EOC, Critical Care, Pulmonary, Directors)
  • Conduct hand hygiene and device day audits
  • Observe scope cleaning and audit sterilized instruments
  • Participate in corporate infection prevention calls

Quarterly Responsibilities

  • Conduct and prepare minutes for Infection Control Committee meetings
  • Ensure QAPI data entry by units
  • Participate in Antimicrobial Stewardship (AMS) committee and present infection cases
  • Support LeapFrog data reporting through NHSN

Annual Responsibilities

  • Develop and update Infection Control Plan and Risk Assessments (internal and external)
  • Prepare annual reports including antibiotic stewardship and employee vaccination data
  • Review policies every two years
  • Submit annual NHSN survey and update TB risk assessment
  • Review equipment cleaning policies with Nurse Managers

Ongoing Duties

  • Manage HAI reporting and policy updates
  • Run data reports as needed
  • Handle Health Alert Network (HAN) alerts and outbreak investigations
  • Monitor biological monitoring reports for laundry services

Current Projects

  • Red bag waste reduction
  • IV dressing kits improvements
  • Transition to new dressing products (e.g., 3M CHG dressings)
  • Implementation of device huddles with nursing staff
  • SPD water/steam quality initiatives and potential RO system installation

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of 1 year clinical experience in infection prevention
  • Certification: Infection Preventionist Certified (CIC)
  • Experience with infection control reporting platforms such as Sentri7, PA-NEDSS, NHSN, and others

Additional Information

  • EMR system used: Cerner and teletracking
  • Work schedule: Monday through Friday, 8 AM to 5 PM
  • This is a travel assignment with a contract length of approximately 13 weeks
