Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (RN) - 6N Overflow - 1014

Location: Wheeling, West Virginia
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Unit & Patient Information

  • Unit Type: 6N Overflow
  • Number of Beds: 30
  • Patient Ratios: 1:6 to 1:7 (RN must be comfortable with up to 1:7)
  • Common Diagnoses/Patient Types:
    • Congestive Heart Failure (CHF)
    • Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD)
    • Cellulitis
    • Rule Out (R/O) conditions
    • Cholecystitis (chole)
    • Appendicitis (appe)
    • Pneumonia
    • Urosepsis
    • Acute Kidney Injury (AKI)

Staffing & Responsibilities

  • Charge Nurse: One charge RN on the floor with assignment
  • Nurse Aides: Yes, Patient Care Technicians (PCTs) on the unit
  • RN Responsibilities:
    • Titrate drips (heparin based on aPTT results)
  • Respiratory Therapy Equipment:
    • No ventilators
    • Intermittent BiPAP available
  • Telemetry: Yes, monitored remotely by techs

Scheduling & Work Environment

  • Shift Length: 12-hour shifts
  • Shift Options: Nights or day/night rotation
  • Scheduling System: Transitioning to Qgenda
  • Weekends/Holidays: Scheduled as needed, usually about half the weekends
  • Standby/Call Requirement: None
  • Floating: As needed based on census; external travelers float first
  • Scrub Color: Navy Blue

Required Qualifications

  • License: Registered Nurse (RN) license required
  • Certifications:
    • BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA certified
    • NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale) certification
  • Additional Requirements:
    • Must provide a copy of an unexpired driver’s license with submission
    • Disclose any licensing issues at time of submission

Prior Travel Experience

  • No explicit prior travel experience required

Summary

This is a 13-week RN contract position on a 30-bed overflow unit with a patient ratio up to 1:7. The role involves caring for patients with a variety of medical diagnoses including CHF, COPD, and pneumonia. The RN will titrate heparin drips and work with intermittent BiPAP but no ventilators. The schedule includes 12-hour shifts with weekend and holiday coverage as needed. Required certifications include BLS and NIHSS. Prior travel experience is not required.
