Job Opportunity: PCU Registered Nurse (RN) - Travel/Contract
Location: Columbia, South Carolina
Facility Type: Acute Care Hospital

Position Details
- Specialty: Registered Nurse (PCU)
- Shift: 3x12 hour shifts, Days (7 AM - 7 PM)
- Patient Ratio: 1:4
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend if needed
- On-call: No
- Floating: May be required to float within scope to like units or sister facilities
- Contract Length: 13 weeks
Required Qualifications
- Experience: Minimum 2 years of RN experience (highest requirement found)
- Prior Travel Experience: Not accepted for first-time travelers (prior travel experience required)
- Licensure: South Carolina RN license or Multi-State/Compact RN license
- Certifications:
- BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA certification only
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA only, RQI acceptable
- Preferred Certifications: NIH Stroke Certification
- Special Requirements:
- Epic electronic health record experience required
- Experience working with a 1:4 patient ratio
Schedule & Work Environment
- Block scheduling possible with manager approval, dependent on unit needs
- Local candidates may be considered on a case-by-case basis
- Facility may call off 1 shift per 2 weeks
- Hurricane season (June-November) may require emergency response team participation
Compliance & Documentation Requirements
- Background Checks:
- Annual background check covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years
- Must include SSN trace, statewide, national criminal, sex offender registry, FACIS 3, and international searches if applicable
- Background check must be run within 90 days of start
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start and updated for renewals
- Education Verification: Required; diploma or transcripts accepted as placeholder if verification pending
- References: Proof of 2 clinical references required; at least one from the same unit
- Employment History: Last 3 clinical employers verified; attestation letters accepted only if other verification methods exhausted
- Competency Exams: Medication test/pharmacology competency exam required as applicable
Health & Safety Requirements
- Physical Exam: Must be current within 90 days of start, attesting ability to meet physical demands without restrictions
- Immunizations & Titers:
- Tdap within 10 years or declination form required
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required; boosters if low titer
- Hepatitis B: Titer, vaccine series, or declination required
- Varicella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required; boosters if low titer
- TB Testing: Negative T-spot or Q-Gold within 90 days of start; if positive, proof of chest x-ray required
- Drug Testing: 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start; no instant tests accepted
- Flu Vaccination: Required during flu season (Aug 1 - Apr 30); medical/religious exemptions accepted but no declinations
- COVID-19 Vaccination: Not required but highly preferred; vaccination records must be uploaded or declination form completed
- Respirator Clearance: Annual medical clearance required via RespSafety virtual questionnaire
Facility Specific Requirements
- Completion of orientation modules (approx. 2 hours) prior to start; must be done on a computer, not a phone
- Upload COVID and flu vaccination documentation into facility system
- Clear, passport-style photo for badge required (frontal view, solid light background)
- Completion of confidentiality, security, contractor forms, and job description prior to start
- May require radiation badge depending on assignment area (not required for PCU RN)
Additional Notes
- Parking available with no fee; parking pass provided at badge pickup
- Local radius considered up to 60 miles
- Must comply with facility policies and emergency response during hurricane season
This position is ideal for experienced PCU RNs with prior travel contract experience, strong Epic skills, and the ability to work a 1:4 patient ratio in a fast-paced acute care setting.
