Job Opportunity: Operating Room Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: Abilene, Texas
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Position: Registered Nurse in Main Operating Room
- Start Date: March 2 (may consider March 16)
- Schedule: Monday, Wednesday, Thursday with call and late days as required
- Surgical specialties include Neuro/Spine, Ortho/Trauma, General/Robotics/Trauma
- Required Experience: Craniotomy and burr hole experience
Required Qualifications
- Registered Nurse license valid in Texas
- Experience in Operating Room nursing with emphasis on neuro/spine and trauma cases
- Craniotomy and burr hole surgical experience required
- Years of Experience: Not explicitly stated, but must meet or exceed facility expectations for specialty OR nursing with required surgical experience (default to higher if conflicting info)

- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)

- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) – as applicable

- NIH Stroke Certification – as applicable
Background and Compliance Requirements
- 7-year background check required within 1 year of start; update annually
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start
- Education verification (highest level) required
- State-specific checks for Texas (DADS Employability Status and Employee Misconduct Registry) within 30 days of start
- Drug testing: Negative 10-panel drug screen including THC within 10 business days prior to start; no exceptions for positive results
- Physical exam required within 1 year of start, must be completed within 72 hours of contract signing
- Fit mask (3M 1860 Regular or 1860S) required, updated annually
- Seasonal flu vaccination required during flu season (Oct 1 - Mar 31), with agency religious or medical exemption accepted
Health and Immunization Requirements
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year of start (PPD or equivalent)
- Immunizations or positive titers required for:
- Rubeola (Measles)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Hepatitis B (positive titer, series, or declination accepted)
- Varicella
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine within 10 years of start
Competency and Testing
- Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam as applicable
- Color Blind Testing (online Ishihara test accepted)
- Pass/Fail testing for Telemetry nurses (if applicable)
- Skills checklist required and updated annually
Facility Specific Requirements
- Completion and signing of various facility-specific acknowledgments and agreements prior to start (e.g., vaccination info, TB and occupational exposure, patient-centered pledge, confidentiality, compliance, background check authorization, traveler identification)
- Orientation modules (~3-4 hours) required during orientation
- Parking available for orientation and employment
